I've posted this before I think, but my budget has gone down a little bit.. What would be the BEST custom build I can get with this budget? I'd like it to be able to play good games and to run smoothly. Also, I'd like it to be pretty fast and be able to run multiple programs smoothly. Anyone have any suggestions around this price range? I really need to go as cheap as possible while getting the best parts within this price.

E6750 is intel's best price performance processor. The baby can also be overclocked to 3.0GHz+ to match the higher end processor speeds. You can upgrade to a Q6600 if you going to run any heavy programs such as editing software, multiple game clients, encoding software, etc.

8800 GTS 320MB run any games great up to 1600x1200 resolution. If you plan on playing games at higher than 1600x1200 resolution, you could bump up to the GTX.

You don't need a sound card unless you have a high-end sound system.

HDD.. you do not need a big harddrive since you are on a budget. So I would assume you do not download a lot. Most average users can get by with 160GB no problem. There is also cds, dvds, ipods, external drives, etc for extra storage if you ever run out of HDD space.

I choose the Quadcore since you want to multitask and there are more apps now that can utilize the extra cores and the dual core won't be able to. With the Stage 3 options, DS can OC your system to around 2.8 and that should be enough to run anything. A 250 GB HDD is a must since HDD price is so cheap. I remember just a few years ago people were talking that we won't be able to fill up a 10-20GB HDD  LOL!! Looks what happen now. A single game install can take hundreds and hundreds of MB and that's now counting all your other apps (Vista alone takes up around 4 to 8 GB)!!

Vista as your OS since you won't have any trouble with it on a new system.
 
The 8800GTS card is a great card for your budget. The 667MHz is not the fastest RAM but it can be OC. Built-in audio is not that great ( Reatek audio chip) but that should be fine.

His config has the ability to add another card for SLI in the future.

Two optical drives... if you have a use for them than go for it.

Bigger HDD.. do you collect music, movies, tv shows? If not.. a bigger HDD is just a waste of money.

Vista is personal preference.

With that graphics card and everything, I would be able to play most games very smoothly and fast? Like Bioshock, COD, Battlefield? And would Vista have any effect on this? I hear that if your system comes built with Vists it works alright.
