Soon to be 1st time DS buyer, wanted to post the rig I'm thinking of to see if anyone has any suggestions. Don't feel I really need a 2x SLI setup (only one monitor), and the TITAN is too expensive for the minor gain it gives over the 980 Ti.
Budget: 3-4k Expectations: Be able to play most, if not all games at high settings. Not looking for Ultra everything turned on, but I also am not looking at setting my games to mid-low graphics either. Usage: Gaming Special Needs: N/A Saved Ticket #: N/A Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Digital Storm Apollo Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 5930K 3.5GHz (Six-Core) (Unlocked CPU) Motherboard: ASUS X99-DELUXE USB 3.1 (Intel X99 Chipset) System Memory: 32GB DDR4 2800MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX (High-Performance) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX1000i (Digitally Controlled Power) Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (500GB Samsung 850 EVO) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Western Digital - Enterprise Edition) Internet Access: Wireless PCI-E ASUS PCE-N53 (Dual Band Performance) (Supports 802.11n/g/b) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (Extreme-Performance Edition) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Green) CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Graphics Boost: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) Any tips, suggestions, ideas or input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! |

Hi xcman04.....Nice setup but I would make a couple of suggestions. Swap the 5930k for the 5820k . The only difference is the number of Pcie lanes for graphics cards. The 5820k will save you some money and give even an sli setup all the bandwidth they need.
I agree with 980 it over the Titan. Go with 16gb ram. For gaming, 32gb is a bit much but doesn't hurt if that's the choice. Unless you're going 4K monitor the single 980ti is excellent. Hope this helps and good luck. |

for a gaming-only rig i'd suggest going with a Skylake/Z170 platform over X99. i, myself was all set to buy X99, but after getting familiar with the new chipset, it just made more sense to go with the new "shiny". if you plan on doing some heavy video editing, rendering, 3D modeling, etc, than by all means stay with X99.
