Hello Fellow Enthusiasts,
I've encountered a problem(probably self-made) with my web browser Internet Explorer 11. I ran some maintenance software, Advanced System Care 5, Wise Disc Cleaner 4, Wise Registry cleaner 4, and another I don't recall(it had a slimming option to get more disc room). I have 2 1TB drives that I have yet to install and the 500GB hard drive has only 17.9 GB unused. Now the problem. When I bring up Google on Internet Explorer and ask a question it brings up multiple possibilities. After researching one possibility I use the back arrow to choose another and the back page is blank. I checked internet options and the " delete browsing history" is not checked. I have deleted numerous programs to gain more disc space for new programs using Advanced Uninstaller Pro 12 and also optimized the registry with that same program. Any ideas of how to fix this? It's extremely irritating to restart IE and Google to research each option of the question asked. Any information on this problem will be greatly appreciated. |

I did a Yahoo search and came up with these three websites, which essentially say the same thing about your problem. The third one seems specific to IE11, and the "best" answer is at the very end.
The problem has to do with Google Ad-Sense, and has been around for awhile. Here is a clever work-around "When I have to use IE, I’ve worked around this issue by not clicking on links but right-clicking and doing “open in a new tab” so that when I’m done looking at the link, I can just close the tab and be back where I was." Hope these help you. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_other/back-arrow-not-working/ce43d94e-3de0-48c1-82d3-a7f88e4f7d64 http://www.online-tech-tips.com/internet-explorer-tips/fix-back-button-not-working-in-internet-explorer/ http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/124b07e7-403c-4453-95b2-3a2eb4fec9d0/ie-11-hates-pdf-files?forum=ieitprocurrentver Edit: Found another one specific to IE11, very long and detailed. http://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/807932/ie-11-back-button-does-not-work Edited by forrest74 - 02 Jul 2017 at 4:20pm |

forrest74,
Thanks for all the input. Unfortunately, the many ideas given that I tried did not fix the problem. I like the work around you suggested but cannot get my computer to open each window in a new tab. I tried to set it to do that in internet options but it still stacked pages. I may be doing it wrong and maybe someone can show me step by step how to make IE 11 open each page in a new tab. I believe this problem was caused by something in the many windows updates. Every report of the problem was from a user of Win 7, 8, or 8.5. Does the problem exist with Windows 10? If not, this is very disconcerting. Thanks again and I will keep trying new ideas as they surface. |

Just me, but I stopped using IE years ago because of issues. I've tried it recently, just to see, and went right back to Firefox.

Oops,
I finally figured out how to open new windows in a new tab. It seems to be a workable solution, so I'll try it for a while. |

Reminds me of an old-timer's saying...
"The only time you use IE is to download Chrome." Congrats on getting it to work. |
