Topic: Adding a Drive Posted: 31 Jan 2018 at 6:24pm |
Just got my new rig 2 weeks ago and I have been rethinking my choice to only have one drive. I am thinking about adding another NMVE drive for backup purposes. I have an 8700K processor with an Asus ROG Stryx Z730-H mobo. It has the Samsung 960 pro ssd. The question is I'm thinking about putting in the Samsung EVO NMve 256 just for backup so what do I need to do after installing in the slot to get the machine to recognize it?

Check your mobo, make sure with 2 m.2 drives your speeds are not effected, your m.2 settings in bios should already be setup from your first. You will need to initialize it in windows and format /enable it.
For backup an external is always better. |

Yeah I agree above. I have an external backup 500GB which I believe is western digital and it serves me well. Had it for about 6+ years as I backup my stuff every month. Has a nice case too

I have to agree on using the external. I use one and completely disconnect it when my backup is done. If you have a backup that is connected all the time you run the risk of it being infected with your other drives and it would then be useless.
