Hey folks,
Back again with some more software issues. This looks to be another wide-spread widely known issue. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare crashes constantly. Sometimes before a match fully loads, sometimes 3 minutes into gameplay, sometimes before I even search for a match and I'm on the create a class screen. I've optimized in GeForce experience, I've made sure drivers are fully updated, and can't figure out what the issue is. When the game "crashes", it doesn't freeze the PC or anything. The screen freezes, no more game sound or anything. I have to pull of the task manager and end the program that way. Any thoughts/suggestions? Operating system is windows 10, GPUs are 980s. |

Yes, a Steam game, and I've not tried singleplayer. It used to work just fine, I just felt like popping on for a few since I hadn't played an FPS in a little while, and noticed it crashing constantly.

Try Verify Game Cache by right clicking game, properties, Local Files and click Verify. Let is run to check files. It works in some cases.

Tried the Verify - thought it worked at first, but nope. Still crashing.
db, kind of sketched about downloading a fix from some website I'm not familiar with. Is this legit? |

yeah, i would be too, but it's something i found and the comments seemed to suggest it worked for peeps. i don't personally play that game. it sounds like it's a crappy console port, poorly optimized for pc and that's why it has all of the those problems. you might check COD's forums for better/safer solutions. perhaps there's a driver recommendation for that particular game.

Just to provide an update - I've been going back and forth with Activision's customer support. According to them, they've narrowed it down to an issue with a monitor capable of running at 144 hz, connected via display port. So even if I run my ROG Swift at 60 or 120 hz, it will still crash. They are convinced that it has nothing to do with Windows 10 (even though I told them that I never had this issue on the same monitor, prior to upgrading). Seems sort of strange to me, but it looks like the only option I have for now is to either not play, or play on my 22" monitor @ 60hz. First world problems I suppose, but it feels awfully silly to have spent so much money on such a beautiful machine, and not be able to utilize it fully. /grumble

Thanks for the update. Now that you mention it, I have heard of Displayport causing issues with some games or programs. Replacing the monitor dp cable has helped for some. Or any adapter you might be using.

I certainly hope I don't run into this problem as well. Bought two brand new monitors with 144hz and new display port cables...just awaiting my new Rig. If so I will be quietly grumbling myself.

since your ROG Swift only has a dp connector have you tried a dp-to-hdmi/dual link dvi-d adapter? Edited by db188 - 30 Sep 2015 at 7:00pm |

Yeah, agreed. I didn't research it but do remember lots of links when Googling it a few weeks ago after reading others complain. No experience myself with DP. |

I've not tried an adapter, no. It seems like a waste to buy additional hardware, when I know for a fact this same exact hardware (read: same display, same cable, same port, etc) worked just fine several months back. That's why I'm with db188 in thinking it must be a game engine issue that won't let it function with a 144hz display, perhaps due to a patch (as they told me it is not just a Windows 10 issue).

But no matter what the case is, Activision informed me there is presently "No ETA on a fix/solution". Which leads me to believe they either don't care or aren't working on it, considering the game is now (slightly) dated, and it's also not a console issue. And as much as I love FPS games, I wouldn't rush back to the store for a sequel if this is how they handle tech support issues. I'd rather hop on Counter-Strike for a bit.
