This will be my 3rd DS computer if it meets my needs.

Budget:

Around $4500-5000 for computer and OS only

Expectations:

Fast, quite, reliable, stable, upgradeable system that will last me 5+ years at least

Usage:

Used for general computing, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier (basically transferring old family movies to DVD), Encore, InDesign, Desktop publishing, accessing medical imaging and charts from home. Possible home music server. No gaming.

Specifications:

Sorry could not find what I need from the parts listed in DS configurator.

From my research and reading this is what I came up with as a starting point.
I'm looking at Broadwell-E i-7 6900K or equivalent Xeon.
Motherboards ASUS Deluxe II or X99 E-10G WS, or equivalent Supermicro?
The case should have front access to at least 3 5.25 drives, USB 3 ports. Nanoxia 5B or Corsair 750D or Fractal Design XL R2 meet needs. Case should be less than 23" tall to fit under desk.
Multi-card reader (fits in 5.25" slot)
Memory 32-64 GB high quality and speed depending on CPU. If Xeon then ECC
nVidia GTX-1080
Intel PCIe 750 1.2 TB SSD or equivalent in speed and durability
Couple of 3TB backup drives in RAID 1 for backup and data protection
Couple DVD/BluRay read/write optical drives
1000 Watts power supply, Corsair or equivalent (silent and powerful enough that fans don't need to run!)
Cooling: Not sure. Either Noctua NH D15 or slimmer design for RAM compatibility or water cooling like Corsair H-115i or equivalent

I understand that DS can order the parts I need if they don't have them. I don't know how will that affect warranty.

Advice and input are appreciated.

Update
I tried a configuration
https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1509224

Cases are limited to 10 options only.
No 1.2 TB Intel 750 PCI SSD (DS used to have this in the configurator)
No Noctua fans (DS used to have an option for it. The first computer I got from DS came with a Noctua fan).

Maybe I need to build this one myself!

The packing is not the foam expanding anymore so the noctua was not staying still during shipping so they stopped offering it.

Change your cpu cooler to h115i. forget the noise package its pointless and waste of your money, if you want quiet you have to go with quiet fans.

I would go with corsair ram here

I read that the Corsair H115i has noisy fans. Can the fans be replaced?

It can be loud but yes you can change the fans on it and most people do, but I would not worry about till I get the pc and see if I actually put enough load on it to push the fans to that extent.

Can't wait to get the system. They get crazy busy this time of the year, every year.   It is possible it moved up a stage or two, but you just didn't get an update. It happens, but just a guess on my part.

Thanks. I just checked and 8 days later I am still at Stage 1. Must be really busy or they don't have all the parts in stock.

It has been 30 days since I ordered. Maybe I need to cancel the order and look somewhere else. Very disappointed.

I'd call them and see what's up.   Not much we can do on the forums.

Good luck.

Talk to Alex. He can get you an idea of whats going on and how busy they are. I ordered my system in Oct and I'm still waiting on my system, which just recently got to Stage 5. Also you cant count non-business days and holidays since they are normally closed on those days. So really you've only had 21 working days. You are well ahead of the power curve compared to my 40 days.
