Budget:1400
[Please Type Here] Expectations:WoW, Diablo 3 high/max settings [Please Type Here] Usage:playing mmorpg as well as streaming content to my xbox [Please Type Here] Special Needs: [Please Type Here] Saved Ticket #: [Please Type Here] Specifications: [Please Type Here] Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the Digital Storm prebuilt setups. I mostly play WoW and I want to be able to play Diablo 3. Currently my monitor is 1680x1050 but that may be upgraded at a later point. I'm trying to decide between the Marauder level 2, Marauder level 3, or the ODE V2 level 1. There is about a $300 spread here. The cheapest one has the AMD FX-8120 and HD7770 where the other two have i5 2500k and HD 7850. The Ode is a little more expensive than the Marauder for basically the same specs. I would like to be able to run WoW and Diablo 3 at max settings with my current monitor @ 1680x1050 as well as a higher resolution if I replace my monitor. My other desire is for it to be future proof for at least 4 years. My current rig is a HP box AMD Athlon X2 3800+ that I added a GeForce 8800GT and 700w power supply. This rig has served me well for 6 years, but I'm always concerned about overheating. Which of the 3 setups should I go with? I would rather have the i5 because my Athlon has never impressed me. Thanks |

Hi Doxiedad......Welcome to the forums.
Of the three setups you mentioned. I'd suggest a different one. The Marauder lvl 4.....The Marauder lvl 3 and the ODE lvl 1 have the HD 7850 card. The difference between the two is the ODE is overclocked and the Marauder lineup isn't. For the same $1299 as the ODE 1 the Marauder lvl 4 gives you the HD 7870, no oc'ing, but the 7870 does alot better in most games for fps. Here's a link to see comparison.... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=548 I like the ODE's 600T case better for cooling with it's 200mm fans but with no oc and the new HD'd running cooler it should be fine. See what you think and Good Luck Edited by bprat22 - 26 Apr 2012 at 7:11am |

bprat22,
Thanks for the quick response. After looking at the comparison charts I'm actually leaning more towards the Marauder lvl 3. It gets to a point of diminishing returns in my case. Especially since it will be World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 1680x1050 for me. How well would a Marauder Lvl 1 or Lvl 2 serve my needs? I have a 1TB data drive to plug into any of them. I currently play WoW on my 6 year old HP that I added a video card into. The problem is it won't play Diablo 3 It's got an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windows XP 2 Gig ram Nvidia GeForce 8800GT No problems with WoW medium settings, but doesn't meet minimuim for Diablo 3. Basically my first gaming computer so as you can see my standard based on what I'm used to should be easy to fullfil Lvl 1 is $799 Lvl 2 is $999 Lvl 3 is $1199 I'm just trying to find where I hit the point of diminishing returns for what I need. Thanks for the help. |

The Marauder lvl 3 will play those games great.
Just so happens I have another chart http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/521?vs=549 The HD 7850 blows your old card away. Smokes it. So, in that respect you're good to go. For another $100 you get a about a 20% better performing card, but it all depends on what you play in the future. The Marauder lvl 3 is very good, tons better than what you have and like you said, it does have the i5-2500 chip. If you go by the recommended specs for Diablo 3, then this will be great. Forgot to mention the lvl 1 and 2 Marauder. Either one will be lots better than what you have and play Diablo 3 just fine. But thinking a year or two down the road, spend a little more now, and save spending later. IMHO, the Marauder vl 3 is the minmum I would do, but your call as usual.

Yeah just about anything will smoke my current setup. LOL
Looking at that Chart it looks like my $200 from Lvl 2 to Lvl 3 roughly 60% improvement in performance? And i'm guessing about the same between the CPU's ? Thanks. |

I perfectly understand a tight budget, but, if possible, I'd spend the extra $200. In a year or two when Diablo 4 ???? comes out, you don't want to buy another pc or upgrade video card . Plus, when you do have the extra power for gaming, alot of people move into games they never considered. Either way, you're definitely stepping up. Good luck and keep us updated.

Haha, it took blizzard over a decade to come out with D3 and it even so, we aren't getting the "complete game". So I highly doubt a D4 in an year or two. But they are trying to get out the best possible bug free game.
Anyways, like bprat mentioned, Marauder lvl 3 is more than adequate for D3 Edited by criTalon - 26 Apr 2012 at 11:42am |

Budget vs future proofing is at the core of all these decisions. Pay more now? Save and wait for new technology?

Ok so for an update. I've been saving towards the Marauder Lvl 3, but my freezer died, so there went $500 towards that instead of my computer.
So now I'm starting to wonder if the Lvl 1 for $799 might be the way to go. My old rig plays World of Warcraft just fine, and from what I can tell the Lvl 1 smashes my old rig. How well would it play Diablo 3? The only PC game I play is WoW, and will play Diablo 3 since I got it for free. Just a thought. Thanks. |
