Going air for my next build... I7-7700k (probably won't OC) MSI z270 m7
Potential coolers: MSI core froze L 120mm fans (dual fans) CM v8 GTS MasterAir Maker 8: I really appreciate how the fans come off the cooler for easy replacement, unlike my noctua Noctua NH-U14S 140mm All help is appreciated. Thanks Edited by Joel - 24 Aug 2017 at 11:54am |

the "little" Noctua is a great cooler for a "slim" air cooler. it stands alone in its category for being able to handle oc'd procs. the fans are just held on by clips, so i'm not sure about that comment, unless you just meant the clips give you trouble.

+2 on the Noctua
I have the D14 and I can remove and replace the fans in seconds. There is just two spring clips on each fan. Edited by Nomad1970 - 29 Aug 2017 at 6:59pm |

My last two DS systems have been OCed and air cooled with the D15. (7 years total) I have never, knock on wood, have overheating issues or a D15 failure. It is solid as a rock.

Noctua is the best. Only thing to go wrong is a fan,,which all coolers have anyways. No leaks, firmware updates, debris or algae , etc.

air coolers have their limitations, namely their ceiling when it comes to their ability to transfer heat away from the proc. lc with a 360mm rad will beat all of the air coolers and allow higher oc's or the same oc with lower fan speeds, thus a quieter running system. if you're just going to put a AIO with a 240mm rad in your system, then a top air cooler (if you have the space) like the Noctua will perform as well and probably quieter with their better fans.
