I have an Asus x99 deluxe motherboard, and noticed that I am several updates behind on my bios. I have 0904, would it be beneficial to upgrade to 1502? and If so is there anything I need to do to restore the OCing that DS did when I purchased my system.

Not sure where the OC is stored. If it was a L1, and if they did it like mine, it was a change to a freq. and lower multiplier

The OC should be saved as profile 1 or something like that.

It's always risky to flash the BIOS. Generally an upgrade is to fix something or for compatibility.

I'd research the changes on the upgrades to see if you would really gain benefit.

The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" often applies to BIOS flashing.

What Pacesetter said.    Especially the last sentenced.

However, X99 has had some teething problems and some of the later updates address stability and the latest update gives USB 3.1 card support.

Update only if needed.

I've always heard the same thing, bios updates should be to solve a problem. Yet I also heard about all the early issues with the x99's. That's why I wanted to throw a post up and see what other people think. I myself have never had a problem, and I try to get atleast a few hours of gaming in every day. So I may just wait and see, I do plan on updating to Windows 10, so may just wait to update the bios until then.

Here's the link I was looking for Big%20Smile

http://www.xtremerigs.net/2014/10/24/asus-critical-bug-fix-bios-for-x99-deluxe/

Seems Asus recommends the 1004 bios version to address startup and shutdown power issues, but I'm not sure which production boards are included.  Other board manufacturers were recommending no update unless you have issues.

Might be worth some research.  Good Luck.

Hi Clay...I'm hearing a summer release date for Windows 10, but no firm date.

Thanks Bprat, I'll check that out, And Windows hasn't released a firm date yet, they just said this summer sometime. They said yesterday that everyone with any type of copy of winows 7 and 8 will get a free update. Even those with a pirated unregistered copy of windows will be able to upgrade to a legit version of Windows 10 for free, no questions asked. That alone makes me suspicious (big brother and all that) but I hate windows 8 so much, so I'm going to upgraede.

Also one of the newer BIOS updates I understand is required if you want to use th ASUS add on thunderbolt card. I have a couple of Lacie external 3.5TB drives that have thunderbolt in addition to USB.  I am thinking to purchase the add on card later after I have everything else configured just like I like.

MS did backtrack somewhat on the pirated software today. They will allow it to be upgraded BUT it will still remain "un-genuine".

My ASUS Deluxe system is working properly, but I do have an audio issue with my audio interface. I don't know whom to blame though, as I run my sound through my synthesize - what worked perfect on my old machine has drop outs on new machine - could be anything, unfortunately ( to make it clear, while it could be the BIOS, I seriously doubt it, it's likely some contention for a system resource.)

You would think that an under utilized USB bus and low latency audio driver could manage not to drop audio on a modern PC running all the proper drivers...but then, sometimes it doesn't work, ack
