I have just recently placed an order for a new Aventum 3 enthusiast grade gaming pc, and thought I'd see what your guys' take was on the build. I also have a few questions. So, first, are there any major changes you think need to take place? i.e. Any critical weaknesses I need to get on the phone with DS to correct asap, like the need for a better cooling system or power supply? Second, I am considering upgrading the fans, cable management, and noise dampening, as well as the second storage set (from basic HDD to one of the more affordable DS brand 2TB SSDs). Does anyone have experience using the Standard Factory Fans? Are they good enough? What about Stage 2 Noise Suppression? Is the sound of the system really so loud as to warrant the extra expenditure? Last, does GPU overclocking require a GPU liquid cooling system, or will liquid CPU cooling and the fans be good enough to ensure the system doesn't overheat? My machine is moving through the process incredibly quick--placed order last monday and one week later it is already at Stage 5, Final Stress Testing!--so any quick responses will be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think! Best, Romanesqueish |

FYI Monitors I will be using include at least two 43-inch 4k beasts, possibly with the addition of a third in the future. I realize that this will likely stress even two Titan Xp's, but I'll lower the resolution a bit if it really cannot handle it.

I'm a gamer, so I only know the X299 platform is more for "heavy lifting" than just gaming.
Having said that, I can comment on some other choices. The 1080 Ti is very nearly the equal of the Titan Xp. Performance, even oc'd is only off 3-4%. Not much considering the Titan has 9% more menmory. Pu another way, that'd be 3-4 frames at 100 fps. Worth nearly 2 grand? I'm pretty sure you'd not see much help from an extra 32GB of RAM for the uses you cite. I'd save $555 and get more later if needed. The Corsair Dominator is going to widely available so you can add more sticks. Just make sure DS gives you 2x16s so there's room. I don't know why the Configurator only gives you one AIO liquid cooler to choose. I'd recommend you request the Corsair 110i with the 280mm radiator and 5 year warranty. This may be just me, but with the newest GPUs from Nvidia on the horizon, I'd wanna wait for those. I'd not be so pleased with obsolete cards in my "vengeful god of speed". However, I fully understand, "I made up my mind and I want it NOW!" The thermal management software doesn't do much for you. You mobo comes with temp sensors, and if you get the Corsair AIO, you can download Link software to monitor temps and control your rad. The Windows tweak isn't necessary. It was more for a time when Windows features were eating up extra RAM and GPU memory back when we had very little of each. Hope it helped. Edited by Cretae - 24 Apr 2018 at 7:56am |

You guys are champs. I spoke with DS and implemented a number of the changes you suggested Cretae. I asked them about adding the Corsair 110i cooling system, but the reps told me that I would just be paying for stuff the system would not make use of, so I decided to opt out of that one.
I also kept the 64GB of RAM because I wanted to future proof the system as much as possible. Thank you for quantifying the minimal difference between the 1080Ti's and the Titan Xp's. It has not been explained to me like that before, and it saved me a cool $800, allowing me to upgrade a few features I wanted but could not afford in the original build. If your interested, I posted the new build below. The changes are going to add some time to the build process, but it's definitely worth the wait. That's just a monster machine there, romanesqueish!
We recommend the 110i for the 5 year warranty is all. Plus it's a bigger radiator just in case. Glad I could help you on the video. I wish you all the best. Edited by Cretae - 26 Apr 2018 at 3:31pm |
