Topic: Bolt 3 case accesories (wall mount/vertical stand) Posted: 04 Jan 2016 at 4:30pm |
So with checking out choices for the custom made bolt 3 cases I stumbled across 2 things.
1) the vertical mount stand, should this had come with my PC or is this a special order item I can get from DS. 2) wall mounting bracket, this interested me as well. Would mounting the case on a wall affect thermals on backside since the venting there will be very close to a surface with minimal airflow? Also where can I get one, special order from Lain-Li? |

you'll also notice that there are "hook" mounts on the rear panel just above the fan exhaust. you don't need a mounting bracket if you have some strong hooks.

i seriously doubt you'll see any significant thermal performance drop-off. there should still be enough space to exhaust that back side fan. most of the heat is probably expelled out of the top anyway.

We don't have any wall mounts (sorry), but there are mounts on the chase fi you have something that can work. Thermal should be fine.

Thanks, yes I saw the hole on the back of the case, just need to see what I can do to make it work if I can get my hands on a official mount. Want to get them into some studs if possible but just being over 8 in apart don;t think that will happen.
What about the vertical stands, did DS get them with the cases? Are they offered? |

Finally was able to locate a site back east with the wall mounting brackets by Lain Li. Got it mounted over the weekend and looks great, freed up some desktop real estate, room for the beer

Also had a seperate question in regards to having it wall mounted. I have noticed that the bottom and the back of the case gets pretty hot to the touch. It hasn't done any damage to my wall and I have no concerns there. The question I have is that I noticed that there is a vent in the back that currently has a filter installed. Could I install a fan to blow out some of the hot air form the back or maybe even suck in some air from the outside? If so would I be able to use the same fan(s) that are mounted inside the top of the case? Where would be the best place to source power from?

Setup looks great.
If you mean using the same fans as are being used for the top rad, then ,no, I wouldn't mess with those. Needed for your rad cooling. If you mean installing similar type fans then I don't see where there's room for any other fans. It's a tight case. I don't have the Bolt 3 so I could be wrong. If the heating has occurred after mounting the case to the wall, then it probably doesn't have enough space to kick the heat away. I would consider using a shelf where you can move the Bolt a few inches from the wall. Good luck. |

Looks real nice. Thanks for the image. Use a temp monitoring program to check the temperatures where they really matter.

Thank you for the replies, I was refering to adding a new fan and yes wasn't sure if it would fit back there. The case has always been warm to the touch even before I wall mounted it. I use the temp monitoring software from DS that came with the system. Also it only gets hot when extreme gaming, heat is coming off the GPU really.

Yeah, that card with its custom cooler will empty the heat into the case. The reference single fan cards don't have that problem. Under stress the fans will turn on so that's why , in gaming, the heat builds after a time. Like hoserator said, if the cpu and gpu temps stay good then it shouldn't pose a problem, unless the rear SSD and HDD drives are getting overly hot.
The option of a side window fan next to the card would be nice, or cut one yourself. But, that takes away from the aesthetics. The mobo might have an empty fan header you could use if anything comes of this. Or the DS Control board. Curious.... the pic looks like your graphics card is sitting at an angle. Is it or just an optical illusion? Edited by bprat22 - 05 Apr 2016 at 7:37am |

Yes the GPU is sitting at a little bit of a slope in the case. That's how DS mounted it in the case.

The cards do have weight to them, so if its working and no apparent damage where it mounts then all is good. Card droop isn't unusual.
Have fun. |
