Topic: Bolt 3 DVD-ROM drive not opening Posted: 25 Nov 2016 at 11:04pm |
Hi guys,
In the 1 year I've had my Bolt 3, I've never had to open the DVD-ROM drive. Today, I tried to eject the tray but it wouldn't open. The green light blinks but nothing happens. I unscrewed the side panel (not the acrylic panel) and checked if it was properly connected. Didn't find any issues with the connection. Any tips on how I can fix this? The bolt 3 is a compact machine so I'm a bit nervous on trying to unscrew anything else. I'm fearful I'll mess something up. Thanks in advance. |

I haven't messed with one in some time, but they used to have a small hole in the front you stick a small pin into, to open it. Once opened it might work after that.
If still a problem, unplug it's power connection and reseat it, to reset it. You can also go into Device Manager, right click the drive, uninstall it, reboot, hard not soft, and let Windows reinstall it. Good luck and let us know. |

Thanks for your response. I looked for the hole but unlike other DVD-ROMs, this one doesn't have a hole to eject the tray. Any other suggestions?
Thanks. |

Couple of other suggestions...shutdown, reboot and start pressing the eject button before Windows loads anything.
Go into File Manager, My PC and right click the drive and select Eject. After that you might have a bad drive. I'm wondering if a disc was left in the drive and is stuck, tilted in the drawer. Maybe tapping the drive and tilting the PC might help. |

I can't tell if there is a cd/dvd stuck in the ray. I tried what you said. Didn't work. Thanks for the suggestions. Probably just a bad drive.

It appears you have a slot loading drive, so I do not think it's stuck in the front. If you haven't tried yet, check the power and data cable going to the drive, perhaps it's loose?
If that does not work, give our support team a call and we'll go from there. |

Hi Alex,
Thanks for responding. I opened the side panel and checked the data and power cable and it seems fine. I made sure it was connected. I will call the support team and see if they can help fix this. Thanks. |
