Question:
I am looking to buy a new desktop for my apartment. Should I go with the Bolt 3 or wait until the Bolt X comes out? Current Configuration that I am looking at: 1690859 Thanks!! :) |

If the initial information is correct the new Bolt X will allow for a 280mm rad over the present 240mm rad. Not a huge difference in cooling but is a bit better. It also has better base cooling for the mobo and graphics card area, which can only help. Also better graphics card sag support.
If you can wait I would wait. Might as well get the newest with the latest cooling and support features. Edited by bprat22 - 09 Jun 2017 at 2:31am |

Thanks for the quick response bprat22. Is there an estimate on when the Bolt X will be coming out? I read it was supposed to be out first quarter 2017. |

I wish I knew. DS keeps things under wraps until launch.

They were aiming for early this quarter, but have obviously missed that.

Ah decisions.
If I order now, the Bolt X will released shortly after I get my new PC. If I wait until the Bolt X arrives, Intel will release the new chip and I'll feel left out again... the story of my life. |

August/September will be a good time to buy in...supposedly Coffee Lake processors and 300-series boards will be out by then. Also, AMD is continuing to improve Ryzen 7...the latest update with RAM speeds up to 4000MHz closes the performance gaps where it was lagging behind the i7-7700K, so it'll be interesting to see if Intel can regain any advantage moving to 6-cores. Vega will be introduced at the end of July (launched later) and there are rumors of Nvidia pushing forward the launch of Volta to sometime in August.

Aha! A target date for my new system! Well, ... either the Aura or the Bolt... just to hold me over until Alex finishes that Aventum he's putting together for me. Right, Alex?! |

Apparently, there may be a rehash of the Z270 as the Z370 chipset when it launches in a couple months.
https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/06/10/heres-why-intel-corporation-is-doing-something-str.aspx The reasoning being that because the processor release date was brought forward, there wasn't time to fully validate the new features that were supposed to go into the 300-series chipset. The Z270 chipset couldn't be reused because Intel is revising the pin-out of the socket to an LGA 1151-v2 (same pin count). Supposedly, there will be follow-on beginning next year with the integrated USB 3.1 Gen2 and Wi-Fi along with the non-K SKU's of the Coffee Lake processor (Only K SKU's of Coffee Lake will launch this year). I'm expecting games and programs that are compute intensive to start to better utilize multiple cores going forward. Game engines seem to finally be figuring out how to utilize many threads in processors. Ryzen is also starting to look very competitive with the microcode updates AMD has been releasing to improve the memory speeds achievable with their processors. Maybe Alex can say if they expect to pick up some mITX Ryzen boards (maybe the soon-to-be released ASRock ones?) |

A very wise man once told me that if I always waited for the "next" thing, I'd never have any thing. |

Ordered a Bolt X (Config #1739343).
Super excited. Stupid question on my part. I have a 24" Samsung TV which I will be using as a monitor for now. What is the best cable for this setup? HDMI or DVI? Thanks in advance. |
