Hi, everyone! My friends have had wonderful experiences with Digital Storm, and I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a new system, but I've been out of the Desktop arena for a while and could use some advice.
Budget: 3k, a bit more if needed Expectations: I've been using an Alienware laptop for a while now, and I want something faster with the capability of future upgrades. Usage: I'm an avid gamer, but I have a bad MMO habit (WoW, SWTOR), plus games like Diablo 3, Starcraft II, and the occasional FPS. Special Needs: My space is a bit tight, but I can probably make it work for airflow, etc. This is what I cobbled together in the Configurator. I am hoping to get a few years without having to upgrade, but when the time comes, I'm hoping it won't be a huge PITA. Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Digital Storm Coridium
Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz (Codename Kaby Lake) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: MSI Z270 PC MATE (Intel Z270 Chipset) (Up to 2x PCI-E Devices) (No SLI Support) System Memory: 32GB DDR4 3000MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 850W EVGA SuperNOVA
Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) (Internal) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (960GB Digital Storm Performance Series) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (3TB Seagate / Toshiba) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB (Performance Edition) (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) HydroLux Tubing Style: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected HydroLux Fluid Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks |

Build looks good but you can drop the ram to 16gb, more than enough.
What monitor resolution are you using ? That determines the video card. Generally, a gtx 1070 for 1080p, gtx 1080 for 1440p and the 1080 ti for 4k gaming. I would change the Digital Storm Vortex for a Corsair 240 or 280mm cooler. Corsair gives you a 5 year warranty, and DS brand only whatever warranty you get from them. |

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm purely thinking about headroom in this build. Right now, I'll be using a 1080P 144Hz monitor, but down the road that might be a potential area of upgrade. That was my thinking about the RAM as well, but if 16 covers me for the near future, I'll definitely consider dropping that down. Thanks for the advice on the Corsair cooler. Will do!
Thanks again! |

16 should cover you easy for next 3 year and so should a 1070 gtx.
In 3 years you just upgrade the gpu if you need to, same with ram but ram is less likely. |

If the 850w is not fully modular go with the 750w fully modular.

I'm a noob on this, so enlighten me, please! Is the PS I selected above what I want? I don't think it's fully modular, but I'm not sure. Is it the G2? Nothing in the specs mention it.

The overview mentions and the pic shows the G2. A 750 watt will do it for sure if you want to save a few bucks. I personally would get the 850 even though it’s more than needed, but that’s my thing.

So the psu he picked is fully modular? Doesn't say it in specs.
If it is fully modular then stick with 850w but if you want to save money the 750w will do also. Edited by DST4ME - 24 Sep 2017 at 4:21pm |

If the 850 is correct, I'd prefer it. I don't mind over-engineering this sucker. It's sort of a "unique" situation for me right now, where I have CFO (aka my much better half) approval to "get wtf you want, but don't come back after saying you wish you had gotten something else!" That's an almost direct quote. She is very patient, my lovely wife, but she's right. I have a bad habit of trying to cut corners and not getting what I really want the first time. Hence, my caution here with this beast I'm hoping to build. I sincerely - I mean that SINCERELY - appreciate the input, help, advice. One of the things that really sold me on DS was this forum. You all rock!

Well in that case definitely get the 7700k, but honestly the psu won't make much of a difference, just a bit more headroom, you can't go wrong either way. But still get what you want

Thanks! I am super excited. Was thinking about adding the lights, so I definitely will.
This is me being indecisive.... I have it through my thick skull I will be fine with 16gb of RAM. I am almost certain that the 1070 will rock, but I have that nagging voice saying get the 1080...I am not going to be upgrading my monitor past 1080 any time soon, so just reassure me that the 1070 will be awesome. Thanks Edited by M@nitou - 26 Sep 2017 at 11:34am |

I must admit that I bumped up to the 1080, but the rest of the build is the same. I couldn't help myself I am so looking forward to handing down my old laptop and moving up to this beauty. Thank you all again for your help!

Well then you chose right, for you to fully enjoy this system it sounds like it needs to have the 1080, you get what you want, but now you have an excuse to go up in monitor
