Not sure what model number the cpu cooler is, but if it’s comparable to the Hyper 212EVO, which is what DS used to use, you could probably get to 4.2, keeping vcore below 1.3 or so.     Just a guess since every cpu chip is different, some having more headroom than others, the cpu lottery.

The 6600k Turbos to 3.9 I believe which isn’t too bad for a gaming setup.

Every individual chip will overclock differently. It's called the "CPU lottery". You want to make sure you don't exceed a safe voltage on your chip. I would say <1.25v may be okay. For a safe and sane oc on air, I would guess you could get 4.2 Ghz without over stressing or exceeding safe reasonable temps. As said, your mileage may vary, but only stress testing with close attention to temps would tell you. On that cooler, you would not be advised to stretch too far.

I don't overclock my 8700k because I'm happy with the 4.6-4.7 turbo clock. My comments are general knowledge, not personal experience. Others may chime in with better advice, so stay tuned.

Just to be clear, I was still posting when bprat22 made his comments.

You've met the master at 'ninja'd' comments. You're not ready to take the pebble from his hand, grasshopper.

I have a system DS made a couple of years ago with a I5-6600K and the air cooler over clocked to 4.4Ghz. The cooler is a Zalman CNPS5X. Motherboard did die on my a couple of months ago and I changed out. Not sure if it was due to the overclock or just bad luck
