Topic: Change in ODE v2 Level 4 Posted: 05 May 2012 at 2:45pm |
Just noticed DS changed the graphics card in the ODE v2 Level 4 build from GTX 680 to AMD HD 7970. Also the price dropped to 2049.
Looks like I will have to go custom build after all. I was considering ODE Level 4 vs custom build with the only real changes being the Z77 Sabertooth motherboard, Corsair 1050HX and the HAF X case. The only reason I was considering custom was posible SLI down the road. |

The team updated the configuration to sell the 7970 cards for now, including a price drop as you mentioned. |

Does the "for now" mean that the the GTX 680 will eventually be put back into the ODE V2 Lvl 4?
I was thinking about buying an ODE 4 in two weeks, but now I'm not sure if I just want to wait a little while. I've only ever used Nvidia cards, so I'm a bit leery about changing to AMD... |

I'd guess the reason for the change from the 680 to the 7970 is due to stock issues with the 680 seeing as how every retailer is out of stock constantly. Also, since AMD lowered the price of the 7970, DS is passing the savings to the customer.

Most likely the ODE Level 4 will have the GTX 680 in 1-2 months. |

Quick question could we call and ask to have the 680 put in the ode for a tiny fee? I know we probably cant but it doesn't hurt to ask right?

You can change out parts in the ODE's. But you have to pay $50 for each change (plus the difference in price of the part). So you could get the 680 now. Tiny fee = $50. |

Ran into the same thing myself. So down to pay the extra for the 680 but I might just build a rig now. If only it had the 680 and 16 gigs of ram i would be so happy!

The ODE line-up was introduced last June or July and has changed many times, depending on the latest hardware changes in the industry. At one time ODE 4 was cf 7970. In another couple of months it'll probably all change again.
