Greetings Ladies and Gents.

Currently I'm at a tail end of a deployment and hoping to have a new system at home waiting for me once we get back. Im trying to build a rig w/o going over board (which I am prone to do) so my wifes first inclination upon seeing me doesn't have anything to do with inserting a knife some where into my person while giving me a hug.

Here's the rig that I'm planing on (which is pretty conservative for me).

Ticket Number: 279877

I think i can stay with in the 5.5k range and still keep my life Maybe 6k if I do some major pleading/bribing. I plan on using this for MMO's mostly. I would like to play at 1900x1200 at full settings. Some things to take into consideration is we are both heavy gamers and our apt tends to be very warm, not to mention 2 furballs that like to get their hair on any surface possible. I'm not sure if I should drop the monitor and look to purchase one on my own or keep the one DS sells.

I'd appreciate any help/suggestions.

Thanks guys.

check for monitor prices at newegg and other accessories also.

if you are going with 2000MHz and classified then you might as well go with 965, there is no point in classified and 2000MHz with a 940, you wouldn't notice the difference in ram speed anyways

for your resolution you need 2 GPUs to play at max settings, I'm recommending 2 x 275 cause its performance is extremely close to 285 and to be hones the extra $200 is not worth 4 to 7 fps, when you gonna be over 60 fps anyways. My second recommendation is a single 295 which is pretty much the same as 2 x 275 maybe a frame or two slower:

here you go Ticket# 279884 --- Price: $4514 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $4314

I would go with a 500GB now and upgrade to SSD when prices are better or raid 2 x 60GB vertex for double the speed of the 120GB vertex for the same price, but waiting is much better, cause there are many new SSDs coming out soon.

but to be honest you are better off just taking those builds and changing the CPU to a 920 and the ram to 1333MHz, you will not notice the little difference between the two.

I also dropped the bluray, you can add that to the system anytime you want, but if you have to have it then add it back in now.

if you got with the 920 and 1333MHz ram you will have enough money left over for a 30" monitor if you like, if you do choose a 30" then you need to Tri sli the 275 or quad sli the 295, of course all of that applies if the games you play support sli.

Thanks DST4ME. The only thing im really worried about loading and operating with a quickness are my games and OS, every thing else I store on my tera external HD since I take it with me when we go out to sea. Doe's raid 0 actually work with SSD (speed wise) or are you talking setting them up to make 1 virtual drive?

I'm going to go with your suggestion and drop down to the 920, but should I keep the classified or go with something else? Im thinking of sticking with the classified for future upgrading purposes.

yes raid works with SSD. remember I only chose the 500GB so that later this year you get a quick SSD. but if like I said if you don't want to wait then raid 2 vertex together and you have like 400MB/s read and around 300MB/s write with basically zero seektime.

be sure to go with the 1333MHz Mushkin ram.

as for classified its up to you I think with the EVGA x58 you are good to go, unless you have use for the extra PCI slots that EVGA offers.

btw few people here swear by the Dell 3007WFP-HC seems to be a great price for a great monitor

thank you NF, thats right quad sli (2 x 295) or Tri sli (3 x 275) will take care of all your needs at 2560 x 1600 resolution. if you do go with the 30" then you might want to go with the classified as it has more PCI slots and with Tri sli the regular EVGA x58's PCI slots will be full, classified will leave you with 2 PCI slot I believe after Tri sli.

Here's something I picked up just tooling around on google.

Vega vbmenu_register("postmenu_1034050588", true); Limp Gawd, 4.6 Years

Vega%20is%20offline
This is a list of 30" IPS monitors that have no scaler leading to around 15ms or less of input lag and the panel used:

Dell 3007WFP-HC (LM300WQ3)
HP LP3065 (LM300WQ3)
LG W3000H (LM300WQ5)
Doublesight DS-305W (LM300WQ3)

This is a list of 30" IPS monitors that have a scaler leading to 25ms or more (even up to 50ms range) of input lag and the panel used:

Dell 3008WFP (LM300WQ5)
NEC LCD3090WQXi (LM300WQ5)

This is a list of 30" PVA monitors which are generally slower then IPS due to the technology, generally in the 30ms or more (even up to 50+ms range) of input lag and the panel used:

Samsung XL30 (LTM300DS)
Samsung 305T (LTM300M1)
Gateway XHD3000 (LTM300M1)

I have owned a few of these LCD's on my quest for the perfect 30" for gaming and I have done quite a bit of research. I will provide a few notes and thoughts about the different monitors.

I generally like IPS better then PVA but I would have to say if the input lag on the Samsung XL30 wasn't as high as it is, I would be using that monitor. Best color reproduction of them all, awesome LED back light and the price has fallen to around $2200 from it's original ~$4500. But the input lag is a killer for me.

The Gateway is a pretty nice screen visually but the input lag, especially with the non-native resolution scaled was just horrid. I had tested around ~80ms input lag with that monitor when using non-native resolution and I returned it. Even in Windows at native resolution the lag was so bad I could clearly see significant mouse movement delay it was that bad.

The 305T looks nice and it uses the same panel as the Gateway but still too slow for me.

The Dell 3008 and the NEC LCD3090WQXi both use the best IPS panel (LM300WQ5), but both have scalers. I don't have any need for tons of inputs so there was no need to go with a screen that has higher input lag when I can get the same panel with a different brand with no scaler. Both of these were out of the running.

This takes us to the fastest screens. The Dell 3007WFP-HC, HP LP3065 and Doublesight DS-305W all use the 92% gamut LM300WQ3 panel. Obviously no scalars used but out of the three the DoubleSight is the fastest. In fact the DoubleSight is the fastest 30" with a 7.5ms tested input lag, while the other two are around 15ms.

The LG W3000H stands out here because it uses the best IPS panel; the LM300WQ5, and has no scalar so the input lag is relatively minimal.

If you are looking for the best gaming 30" I think it is down to two choices really. If you are looking for the absolute fastest with still a decent panel, get the DoubleSight DS-305W. If you want the best panel possible and still pretty low input lag, get the LG W3000H.

from what I read tho s-ips panels are suppose to be better at the end of the day the difference is very little how ever many people here have recommended the Dell 3007WFP-HC.

here you can compar the actuall quality of all the panels

tft central also has some good info
