Topic: Computer Temps Posted: 07 Oct 2015 at 7:50pm |
This might be a stupid question, but I can't find a solid answer and was wondering what people thought about the current temps my computer is running at. Any insight would be good to help calm my nerves lol.
This was taken while running one game and a few programs FYI. Thanks in advance |

well, you don't have any core outside a 10-degree difference from the others, so i wouldn't think this is an uneven TIM situation. can you give us a photo of the inside of your rig for an idea on your airflow config (the rest of your components are displaying good temps)? you can see your cpu loads are in a range from 13%-87% and your temps don't vary much (65C-76C) at those times. what cpu cooler are you using? how hot is the ambient room temp? looks like that is a reference 970 too, so not a situation where the vid card is dumping hot air on the cpu. i know Haswell runs hotter than my Sandy Bridge, but my temps at load are in the 60's and i'm running a moderate oc on it. of course i have a D14 cooling it as well.

Looks like good temps to me. Nothing anywhere's near a problem. The Eclipse with its low profile cpu cooler isn't as effective as db's Noctua or my A70 but it still does the job. Reference 970's meaning the single fan type will run at that temp as opposed to cards with multi custom fan setups that keep the card in the 60's usually.
70's C isn't bad at all for cpu and gpu. Getting into the 80's is when a look see for dust, etc is recommend. Looking at temps for the first time freaks out some when they see the Fahrenheit temps. The Centigrade temps are what to look at. Checking temps every couple of weeks is good practice to see if anything is trending higher which could mean dust building in the coolers/heat sinks. Canned air gently and in short bursts will clean them. Enjoy. Edited by bprat22 - 08 Oct 2015 at 2:40am |

Dumb related question, but what are people using to find out their computers temp? It has been a while since I have really looked at monitoring temps.

The screen above is from HWMonitor. Most use that. I use it with Speccy, as well, as HWMonitor lists my mobo at over 120C.

Motherboard temps in general aren't accurate and don't mean anything. Just as many complaints with Speccy as Hwmonitor as, the list goes on, ...... with certain temps.
Just because Speccy reads lower doesn't mean its more accurate, just lower. |

True, but if BOTH are reading high temps, it's a good indication that there is a problem. Such is my logical thinking. Yet and still, anything reading 121ºC on a computer, and you don't smell the plastic burning, is pretty safe to ignore.

Plastic not burning and the lack of thick black smoke is always a good thing.
Now, the smell of napalm in the morning? That can be a good thing. That was a good movie. |
