    Posted: 30 Jul 2012 at 1:59pm

I'm looking for some input on the configuration shown below. I want a killer gaming machine that can be used for home office work too. I currently own an Alienware that is 3 years old. My budget is rather high based on this configuration. After reading some of the other posts I may be guilty of a little overkill and would appreciate any input on where I'm wasting money or making a good investment. I currently use 2 monitors but have no interest in 3D.

The x79 plateform is more suited for people with quad sli setups or if they do heavy video rendering etc you can get a quality gaming machine for far under your budget

Hello Rick2197,

I personally would lower the memory speed to 1600MHz.  It will be more stable and you wont loose performance.  I also like the Corsair memory.  Nice choice.

DS will tell you that with the case you have chosen, and the one GTX690, you will not need the stage 4 cooling.  The 240MMRAD will work great and the airflow will be more than enough to keep the CPU comfortable.

It would not be my choice to overclock that video card since it is so great as is.  It is tops.

I'm not by any means a expert and you will get great advice to follow from others with more wisdom but that setup is very similar to mine and it KICKS ASS!.

Not one single issue and it runs cool as it can be.

Thanks,

Shot

Yeah I would look at the z77 will sli 680s or 670s if your not going full liquid cooling I would not use the hailstorm, a beautiful case is the cosmos 2 look for it under spec ops section, that would be a sweet case with full watercooling or air cooling its a beauty

This gives you the same gaming performance for $1800 less.

The HafX case is tops for air cooled systems and doesn't need the noisy Zalman fan upgrade and has built in hot-swap bays.  Also doesn't need the noise suppression package.

The Z77 mobo is all gaming needs.  If you plan on going to a third graphics card, then the X79 would be needed, but that didn't seem to be an issue.

The 1050HX is great for sli.

For tops in dependability I put in the Noctua D14 cooler.  The stage 4 cooler you listed is also very good, just has more plumbing to worry about.

Just another way to go.  Good Luck.Big%20Smile

Hi Rick,

That is a solid build from bprat22 with air cooling.

If you want to stick with the Hailstorm case here is a LC system using the Hailstorm. You also should consider increasing the warranty. The 3 year warranty only gives you 1 year of parts coverage.
