Hi all!

Just recently received my DS desktop a week or two ago and am loving it!

However, I have never owned a water-cooled PC before. I was under the impression that, while some maintenance would be required eventually, the need for maintenance wouldn't be particularly frequent.

I am finding now, though, that the fluid in my PC's reservoir is already at 50%, and it hasn't been very long.

Is this normal? I am not running anything particularly crazy right now. I would really hate to have to constantly clean and refill the reservoir every 1.5-2 weeks...

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, check to be sure no leak, but it also could be the system bleeding all the air bubbles as its been running   If the level stabilizing, then just normal bleeding.

I also did notice some fluid spatters around the inside of the case when I got the rig / am looking now and seeing some spatters here and there. I knew I wouldn't get the machine in perfect condition considering how bad my luck is. Very disappointing if there is a leak.

I also just noticed that the LED lighting for the thermal software is all bent up and dislodged. Definitely not a good look.

I am also noticing that the fluid is wavering around a bit within the reservoir, and can only infer that that's the fans blowing air around which is sneaking into the reservoir.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo annoying :(

Ah, and yeah....upon much closer inspection, there is fluid on the base of the rig on the inside. Definitely looks like a leak -_-

Hi TheRealTuna,

You need to locate that leak right away. It is probably a connector that loosen a bit in shipment. Get some soft tissue or paper towels and lay around all of the connectors and reservoir. The tissue will get wet around the leak. Hand tighten the connector and that should fix it. If you don't find a loose connector right away look at your radiator for any sign of a leak. More than likely it is simply a leaky connector.

The reservoir is closed so no air can get in ( you need an allen wrench that you got with the computer to open it to refill). However, if the coolant is low enough, the flow will be noticeable.

Check for the leak like FrankW says. Also check each tubing's fittings. If the tubing is putting a strong enough side load on the fitting, it might leak through its swivel portion. Good luck.

That's not how the computer left the facility. Sorry to hear, we'll do our best to take care of you. Here is a photo for reference of your computer before it shipped, in QA. You can see the fluid is full, etc...

I manually tightened all of the parts connecting to the reservoir, but because of the leak the reservoir is now nearly empty.

Where can I get more fluid for it?

Can I run water through it to make sure there aren't additional leaks?

Thanks for the help

That would be great, but I would feel stupid if they go through the trouble of sending me a refill and there's still a leak :d

How can I check to ensure the leak is fixed now that my reservoir is only at around 15% or so? It's kinda hard to see / feel if there are any problems still.

with that little amount left in the res i wouldn't run it unattended with there still being the possibility of a leak, because you don't want the pump to run dry and burn out.  however, as long as you can monitor the fluid level in the res, you can safely run it and check for leaks (as advised previously).  unless there's a heavy flow leaking out of the loop somewhere you can even continue to add the fluid that DS sends you, keep the paper towels/tissue in place around the fittings/blocks,pump/res, and see if there's still a leak.

did you see where liquid pooled or any obvious sign of a liquid trail inside the case?  was there any particular fitting that seemed looser to you when hand tightening them?

if you do end up still having a leak, it's possible that the compression fitting/o-ring isn't able to achieve a seal due to fluid being caught in between.  the only thing you can do at that point is to drain the entire loop, take apart the suspected fitting from the tubing/component, and clean it up.  you can do it yourself or send it back to DS at that point.

I didn't notice anything feeling particularly loose when retightening. I have noticed some pooling mostly behind the base of the reservoir.

Is there any way I can disable the reservoir / water loop until I receive additional fluid?

I'll continue to investigate!

no, do not run your computer w/o cooling for cpu and gpu.

it's going to pool at the lowest point of the case, but there should be evidence of a liquid trail.  that can help you pinpoint the leak.

it's probably that fitting right behind the res in the pic Alex provided.

Hi TheRealTuna,

With a reservoir that large there is no reason to run it nearly empty. If you run the pump out of fluid it will ruin the pump beyond repair and very quickly. You have lost a ton of fluid and it should be very easy to locate the general area of your leak. From your comments it seems to be around the back of the pump. For your testing you can add some distilled water to the loop but it may dilute the color of your remaining solution. I would put a book (one half inch or so) or something under the back edge of the computer so if you still have a leak it will stay at the front of the computer. You must have solution under the computer or someplace in the bottom of the computer.

Don't get discouraged. You can fix this yourself with not too much effort. You need to use the paper towel trick I suggested in my previous post. Once you know for sure where the leak is, it is a simple fix.

I added distilled water to avoid damage to the pump and to continue to try and track down the leak. Will keep yall updated as I notice anything.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Distilled water is a good idea. Let us know if you are able to find the issue and then we can send you the correct fluid.
