I'm not limited to data usage but i was wondering if anyone knew of a program that can show how much bandwidth/data usage a person has used?
I'm curious to know how much i run a month since i watch a lot of twitch streams, netflix, vudu and amazon and as well as downloading games. |

Your ISP might also offer a monitor.

I'm envisioning their app to pop up a message like "YOU'VE USED 0.1% OF YOUR DATA CAP!!! WATCH OUT OR YOU'LL EXCEED YOUR LIMIT!!!" in an effort to curtail data usage. Edited by - 26 Jan 2015 at 3:33pm |

Also off topic since i plan to use a two monitor setup later on one for watching movies/show or twitch streams and the other for surfing the web or gaming do you think 30mbps would be good enough as i plan to have our internet speed upped from 8. I know its up to 30mbps but i am curious.

30mbs down I'm guessing?
A lot of it depends on your specific provider in your specific area. 100mbs down isn't going to be worth much if you only ever get 5mbs due to shoddy lines. That said, I went for many years on a 25mbs down/5mbs up connection doing HD streaming while gaming, etc. and never found those speeds to be an issue at all. So within like an hour of watching a twitch stream i have used 790 MB
I'll test it more out tomorrow since i usually watch like at least 13 hrs of twitch streams a day and if not watching twitch streams i am watching usually a couple of hours of movies/tv shows on netflix, amazon prime or vudu. Or a few hours of gaming if i'm not watching anything. As it is i have been watching twitch streams for hours on end since January of last year so if there was an issue with data usage i am sure i would have been notified by now....lol Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 26 Jan 2015 at 4:36pm |

This is interesting, thanks for sharing!
I'm curious to see how February ends up. I've always seen ISPs claim that certain caps, such as 200GB per month are only hit by less than 2% of users. But a lot of what you are describing is becoming more and more common, probably just not to that amount since 13 hours per day is likely above average. Either way, you probably make a strong case that caps like that are in fact low. I wonder how much of that is Twitch. |

The three highest are twitch which i watched from 11 to i believe 6, the two short ones i did watch twitch but for a bit cause i had to cut out early. It would have been more but one of the streamers who i watch and mod for at night didn't stream all this week. February will be interesting and i am curious to know what the usage for the month will be. Btw this thing gets addicting to look at i open it like every so often just to see what the usage is at, i'm going to make an effort not to look at it in February until the 28th whether i succeed or not who knows. So i decided to bite the bullet and sent my ISP an email asking if the normal high speed internet had data caps just cause i am curious and because honestly they never mentioned it when we signed up with them. I know they told me awhile back that the wireless was unlimited so heres hoping the regular internet is too so i don't have to assume whether or not we are unlimited.
Hopefully they don't get suspicious of me asking if they have data caps, i would hate for them to decide just to up and monitor my usage every day. Speaking of Usage i have used 36.6GB so far. Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 05 Feb 2015 at 6:31pm |

Networx is a pretty good program for home network users, even if it is just one machine, or someone that has a small server.
36.6 GB is not bad. A couple of the games I am testing are like 16GB downloads so you are doing ok. : ) |

So i got confirmation from my ISP that they don't do bandwidth caps and even with a higher internet package there would still be no bandwidth caps.
I figured they didn't but doesn't hurt to ask, i will still post my results at the end of the month although i figure it will be low given theres only 28 days this month and i wanted to make sure i didn't have a cap...lol Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 11 Feb 2015 at 8:58am |

Comcast used to have a cap but suspended it awhile back. I never did check it, though. Really don't do all that much.

You probably live in an area where they aren't doing Data Usage Trials.
I tracked this from their website which was updated on the 5th. Important Update: These FAQs* describe our trial monthly data usage plan for XFINITY Internet Service in the following areas: Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Maine; Jackson, Mississippi; Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee; Charleston, South Carolina; Tucson, Arizona. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/data-usage-trials/ While i don't have comcast i was looking up bandwidth caps and such and came across that. Glad i don't live in any of those cities i feel for the folks that go over the 250GB cap. Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 11 Feb 2015 at 9:28am |

It's been over a year so i figured i would share my data usage for each month, it's dropped quite a bit since 2015 as i don't watch twitch as much as i use to and i stream tv and shows wirelessly so it doesn't seem to eat up much data aside from Vudu.
My isp put on their website that they don't have a hard cap but if a subscriber is consuming a high volume of data to a point that it harms their network they'll say something. Does that mean if someone is like downloading a ton of data in one sitting or using torrents? I would ask them but i don't want them thinking i'm doing something when i'm not. |

I figure i'll be fine as i'm not to worried about it, just wanted to share my usage for all year. It will probably go back up later on. As far as the consuming a high volume of data goes i think they probably was referring to someone downloading tons of data in a single day like Meller had done which got him shut down by verizon. So i did some reconfiguring on NetWorx, i set it to when my bill recurs which is the 16 of every month and set myself a quota of 400GB cause why not...lol. May change it later on. Also If i hadn't changed it, it would go from the 1st of every month which doesn't help me track since my bill doesn't go from the 1st of every month.
