Topic: Digital Storm Laptop Displays? Posted: 26 Mar 2016 at 12:56am |
So, is there a reason why digital storm is not giving an option for better monitors and screens for their laptops?
While everything else seems top notch, why is the selection for the monitor one of the worst in the industry? With not even an option for upgrades, is there a specific reason that they are doing this? I originally really just wanted to send this to digital storm as just feedback, but didn't know where to do it , so I'll just write a thread here and hope one of their staff sees it... |

Hi mike13531,
You can Email Digital Storm at: [email protected] I assume that you think that DS should have 4K monitors for their laptops. DS's laptop are mostly gaming machines and a 1080 resolution with G-Sync will play very well. Some manufactures use high resolution as an advertising tool and not necessarily needed for laptops. I would rather have a lower resolution with G-sync than a higher resolution without G-sync. For gaming 4K requires a powerful GPU and between the 4K screen and a powerful GPU, the cost is high. Not that cost is a problem for a lot of DS's customers. The 980 GPU is not good enough for a single card 4K and gaming at high levels. Frank |

We thought about it, and we have not pushed 4K displays for our gaming laptops because as FrankW has said, you can't take advantage of the screen with good visual settings.

i have to agree, 4k on such small screens just doesn't make sense. i even question whether or not it's worth it on anything smaller than a 30" screen.
that doesn't mean the quality of the screen can't be an upgrade option. resolution is only one facet to screen selection. Edited by db188 - 27 Mar 2016 at 7:47pm |

Exactly what db188 said.
I get the argument of having 1080p extends battery life, and laptop with 970M configurations etc, cannot take advantage of 4k 2k, etc very well anyways. The point of it is also quality. What about IPS displays? What about better color calibration? The ones that are offered at digital storm isn't very high end despite having everything else being high end. I understand the point of having trade offs. Displays isn't as important to a lot of gamers, and it isn't a make or break thing. However, what about the option? Is it just determined to be not worth it? |

Valid question, the displays we offer currently are quite good, much better than the traditional style of old screen TN panels. One of the tradeoffs is that our displays are G-SYNC, and there is no G-SYNC IPS display, so we're currently not stocking any non-G-SYNC laptops since it's such a popular and great gaming experience.

i'm pretty sure that ASUS ROG and MSI Dominator Pros feature IPS screens with g-sync. i think there's even a Sager model with one. check it out Alex, you might be able to get your hands on the model Sager uses-pretty sure it's just a Clevo with either an AUO or LG screen. i'm pretty sure you can get both 15.6" and 17" sizes as well.

I mean no ill intent really. Ever since I found this company and website, I've been back time and time again, with the new canadian HQ as well, I'm likely to purchase DS systems soon down the road.
I was just curious to see some of the reasoning behind the choices. |

Just got confirmation from our team, all of our G-SYNC laptops are IPS screens.
