Topic: Display Driver... Posted: 02 Mar 2012 at 9:49am |
I've had my DS system for about a good week and a half. It's been a monster and has been doing every task I throw at it. I just been recently having issues with my screen going black and turning back on in the span of like 5-10 seconds. i see an error message pop up but goes away so quick i can't seem to read exactly what it is. the most i can catch is "display driver...." anyone ever experienced this?

Yep, I've had that before and it is a display driver issue. It is typically one of two things. The most likely is a problem with the driver you are using (I'm assuming Nvidia). The best thing to do is to uninstall the driver and then do a clean install. The other possibility that I know of is that your video card could be having some issues.

If it turns out to be a faulty GPU, then yes, you'll need to replace the card. But this could be a myriad of other things aside from a bad GPU. sdwas' suggestion of doing a clean install of the newest drivers for your card is a great start.

You should call DS if driver update is a no-go. You could also download and run HWMonitor, do a google search, and run while stressing your Pc with a game or whatever was causing the problem. HWMonitor will tell you Cpu and gpu temps. The gpu temp shoild be below 85centigrade in the Max column. This could be gpu overheating. Just another possibility.

This is a software issue with nVidia display drivers and Adobe Flash. I had the problem on my rig with nVidia driver version 285.62 (OEM from DS) which is probably the one on your machine because that would have been current at the time of your build.
Latest is 295.73 which I installed on my machine last week and it fixed the problem completely. For me the crashes occurred using Internet Explorer 9 and SnagIt Editor only. Try the new driver 295.73 if you don't have it already. J. |

yea, i'll try the reinstall. it's happened to me on so many different occasions that I might be able to replicate it. will just have to constantly monitor after the reinstall. - just checked my version and it's 285.62, looks like there is an update. i'll give this a shot.

Yep, 295.73 works great for me, no problem. I didn't have any problems with ie9 with the old driver, so I can't say.

With the original version of nVidia drivers that were installed on my system I had to turn off GPU rendering of graphics (learned this trick on another support forum) in IE9 and that stopped the crashes. I turned GPU rendering back on with the new driver version and IE9 hasn't crashed the graphics driver once.

the 295 numbered driver caused my new machine to keep crashing. Couldn't recover from screen power off (not even sleep, just monitor off) and crashed every 30min-2hrs.
I went back to 285 and it works seemlessly. Not sure what my rig came with, but the newest driver did not work well. |
