I was working on my DS and everything suddenly went black. Just as this happened a fan also turned on in my computer. I use a DVI monitor, but I plugged in my tv to the HDMI and there is no picture there either. I'm pretty sure it's not a monitor issue.

The computer is still making sounds like it's working. For example, if I unplug a USB it makes the noise and I periodically hear other chimes like it's working. Is there anything I can fiddle around with inside of the computer to reset things? Please keep in mind I am a complete novice when it comes to these things.

Thank you very much for your help.

See if the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys light up.   If so then Windows is working and the mobo is probably fine.   That means a bad video card.    If your motherboard has integrated video then remove the video card and plug your monitor into the rear motherboard video port. If it works then you need a new video card.

Good luck.
