Looks like a nice solid build.

The fan on the water cooler is what it is but if you call and talk to sales they can give you the options on case fans. They may be able to get the purple on a special order.

That white case with purple fans would be sweet looking.

Hi Kim....  Welcome to the config section.   Big%20Smile

That is a very good, solid build.  Strong  I would, if the budget allows a little more, change the 850 EVO to the 256gb 850 Pro.  A better drive.  Also, change the Seagate HDD to the Western Digital Black, also a better drive with longer warranty.

You can special order pretty much anything here at DS.  Just talk to sales and they'll quote you the price, which does include a special order price.   Special orders aren't covered under warranty last I heard.  Just the part, not the rig.

Good Luck. Big%20Smile

Thank you. Will try what you recommended. As long as it remains at 2500, that will be what I do.

Hi Kim,

Glad to see you took my suggestion and submitted a system. Your build is good and probably the best you can do with your budget on a custom build.

If you can stretch your budget then besides the changes suggested by bprat22, you could get the 750 SuperNova PS.

DS does offer a LED Fan option but they only have Red, Green and Blue. The purple would be special order. You could order the stander fans with no LEDs and change them out yourself. It is not hard to change fans and you could get the purple fans.

Hi Frank! Can't stretch my budget, but will do some tweaking in a bit to see if I can make some adjustments.

I will try that with the fans myself. Have to say tho, I have never done anything inside the puter before, so...I will be a lost ball in tall grass. Can the internal lights be done easily as well?

Hi Kim,

Changing fans is very easy even for a beginner. All you have to do is remove the old fan and mount the new fan. When you remove the old fan follow the cord back to the motherboard and detach the connector. Plug the new fan into the same header/connector. You might have to cut some ties to get the old cable out. Just put ties back where you found them after you run the new cable.

You will find that some fans have metal screws and some have a plastic or rubber screw/connector. You can do a Google search for "How to install a computer fan." The videos are a great help. You can also search "How to replace a computer fan."

Look better? It is 55 bucks over budget. Does the up to $200 off, which I would receive $75, come after this price?

Hi Kim,

When I'm poking around in my machine (cleaning, tightening, reseating, curious, etc) I'm on hardwood/linoleum where there is much less chance of static buildup. So, I'm generally not worried about it. If you're standing on carpet there is a much greater chance.

If you are worried about it, stores like Office Depot carry small straps for $5 or so. Small price for peace of mind.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kim........ That a solid build. Nice changes you made. I would swap the drives so the SSD is drive #1 so primary drive,SSD, has the OS on it. DS will probably do it anyways, but why take chances.

I use a static strap whenever I poke around with the rig, or any electronics. Mine is all frayed. Have had it for 20 years. Time for a new one.    The wrist strap has a clip to hook to metal to keep static from frying anything.

I believe the $75 is taken off at checkout.   Might pay for the ground shipping.   No tax applied unless you live in Calif. last I heard.

Hi Kim,

I think using an ESD strap is a good idea for anyone working on the inside of the computer. Some users connect the strap to a bare metal part/screw on the back of the computer. This should keep you and the computer case at the same potential. The problem is you may forget to touch the case after you walked some place and returned to the computer. You may have picked up a static charge while moving about the area. If the computer is plugged into an outlet then the case will be grounded and so will your strap. You make sure the power switch is turned off. I never liked to work on my computer with the cord plugged in. I prefer to unplug the computer and connect my ground strap to the ground of an outlet. I touch the bare metal back plate of the case every so often to make sure it is at the same ground potential that I am. If you touch other metal parts of the case you need to make sure they are connected to the back plate of the computer.

You have a great build and will give you years of service.

Frank

Hi guys! I have carpet, so the strap might be a valuable purchase.

So, I will address the primary drive when I make the call to order the rig.   I think DS will get tired of me and my questions. :P

Did not realize there would not be tax. That is a huge bonus to me. I was figuring that in. This might be doable before my estimated date...my birthday in June. Fingers crossed.

Not in California, no 9.5% sales tax.. If I were to budget $2500, I'd pay $237.50 in tax. On the flip side, I'm close enough to DS to not pay a shipping charge.

So, at least I have that, which is nice.

Hi Kim,

This is some advise I gave to my daughters when it comes to their computers and changing things out.

Be barefooted or wear rubber soled shoes.

Use a wrist strap but also always touch the frame before reaching inside.

When using tools (screwdriver etc) touch the tool to the frame first.

Use a flashlight! You want to see everything and never guess.

If something fights you or is hard (installing ram, plugs etc) something is wrong. Look closely and make sure you are doing it right, have slots aligned etc.

Don't wear silk undies, they make static.

Static is not static - it's generates itself, builds on it's own and will zap you at it's convenience and cannot be anticipated.

Question.

How many fans total are in the Apollo?

I talked with Tammy earlier, but am a little confused about the total. I want to say 3 140mm and 3 120mm?

Hi Kim,

The Apollo is the Corsair 760T case in the Graphite series. You can go to the Corsair site and see all the features of the case.

This is what is listed for the fans.

Radiator and fan compatibility: Top: 3 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm.
Front: 2 x 140mm or 2 x 120mm (2 x 140mm LED included).
Bottom: 1 x 120mm.
Rear: 1 x 140mm or 120mm (140mm included

Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks Frank. So I would need to order, for my purple fans, 5 140mm and 1 120mm? Total of 6 fans?

For my internal lighting, would I order a dual 12" light kit or 2 of those? From the case it looks like one.

Hi Kim,

The H20 120 cooler you have ordered uses two 120mm fans. You only need to light the one fan that is on the interior side of the Rad. But it needs to be a 120mm.

So you will need two 140mm fans for the front. Two 140mm fans for the top. One 120mm fan for the Rad. With only one GPU you don't need the bottom fan.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but you can buy your fans and ship them to DS and they will install them for a fee. I don't know what that fee would be. If you get the Corsair Fans DS might order them for you. I would talk to your sales person and see what they would charge you.

Thank you again, Frank.

One last question though about the internal lighting. To adhere it, would I use the sticky velco provided? I am concerned about heat melting that. Would you recommend a heat resistant glue that might be better?

Also, to comment on your last statement, I am not sure, but I believe any special ordering for the aesthetics would increase my grand total past my budget. I honestly would prefer DS to do it, but I believe if I am capable, and it is cheaper, I can do it myself.

I am not a light guy so don't have any knowledge about them. Maybe someone who has the Apollo with lights can comment.

I understand budget.

Today is the day that I can order. I am very excited!!

As for the internal lighting, I decided I'd go with the velcro provided and hope it stays. I am going to order the 12" light kit. As far as I know, I just need one?
