Topic: DS Vanquish (which level?) Posted: 05 May 2015 at 9:20am |
So, my current ------ x51 desktop computer seems to be on its last legs, and I've been searching the web for a suitable replacement. The great things that people have to say about Digital Storm's Vanquish model are overwhelming. So much praise!
I've been looking at the different levels of the Vanquish, and the level 3 seems to be the best bang for the buck while still fitting in the desired price point I want. My main interest in the level 3 is due to the GTX 970, which I understand is a significant upgrade from the 960. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to weigh in on the pros/cons of either upgrading to the level 4 or downgrading to the level 2. Thanks for any advice you can provide! Budget: Ideally below $1250 Expectations: The main PC game I play is Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. I'm excited about the new expansion coming out, and want to play it using DirectX11 and max or near-max settings. I also normally jump into new Korean MMOs that come overseas, currently Black Desert Online and Bless Online look gorgeous (if we ever get them). I have been using ------ systems for the last 4-5 years (first a m14x laptop which I then replaced with my current x51 desktop) but I have been unimpressed with their build quality and longevity. Usage: I would say I put my computers through their paces as far as usage goes. I normally game somewhere between 30-50 hours a week. Special Needs: I don't think I have any. I like to keep up with gaming news via online videos, and I may be interested in streaming via Twitch or OBT. Hi Radicalp,
If there is any way you can go for the Level 4 you will get a better system. The Level 4 system has a 4690k processor and you will get a better Over Clock. The SSD is double the size of the one on the level 3. You also get a 750w Power Supply that will provide a lot of overhead for expansion if you want to upgrade the system. Both levels have the 970 GPU. It is up to you if these added features are important. The level three is a nice computer for the money. I would also pick the Original Chassis instead of the alternate unless you just like the looks of the alternate. If you buy the alternate case I would add an exhaust at the rear of the case. I'll echo Frank's comments. The reason being, you mentioned some games and streaming. For the CPU intensive games the 4690K will be MUCH better suited and for streaming it is better at computes and multitasks mainly due to the overclocking. At base speeds the performance gain is little but with the overclocking you'll probably see about a 15% increase. If upgrades are in the picture ( SLI etc) the level 4 is better suited because 3 upgrades are already done and much cheaper than doing it later. $139.00 for better CPU with overclocking, bigger SDD and P/S can't be beat. I think for now the level 3 would be fine but you would be happier in the long run with the level 4. |

If you feel up to it we would love to read a review of the system once you break it in!

Definitely! I'm hoping to actually do an unboxing video (never done one before) and review.

Look what came today! I took an hour from work this morning to drive over to the UPS center to pick it up. Now I have to make it through the rest of the day until I can open it up... Edited by Radicalp - 19 May 2015 at 8:51am |

Congrats.
I can remember the day mine arrived, although that is a much more colorful box than before. Enjoy. |
