Topic: Electrical Sounds (Possibly GPU?) Posted: 25 Jul 2015 at 1:48pm |
I've had this PC about 6 months now and I've never had any problems playing any games before. But recently I tried playing Borderlands 2 and it would start making a very loud electrical sound after awhile. I tried ignoring it but it started getting very loud so I just stopped playing and let my PC rest awhile. I tried playing the same game a few times and the sound will just keep coming back and back.
I played 70 hours of this game on this same computer and never had this problem before but just before it started making I had to leave it out in the car for a few hours with very high humidity. Also, I've been moving around alot lately so it's been moving around alot also. I've tried cleaning the PC with an air blower but I don't have the tools right now to open it up. I also thought maybe it was just BL2 as nothing else I do on the PC causes it to make that sound but any graphically intense game such as Wolfenstein seems to cause it as well. What does the "electrical sound" sound like? Crackling? Or a whine?
If it's a whine, it could be coil whine in the GPU, and can be grounds to RMA the card, which DS will take care of for you. Regardless of what the issue is, I'd contact DS on Monday. |

It's more of a crackling sound.

crackling, popping sounds coming from your rig is never good. i recommend checking every part for connections and dust free first. try to isolate where the sound is emanating from. my first thought was bad power supply and that can start a fire! tread carefully.

6 months? Any cleaning schedule to remove dust bunnies and other critters that play havoc with electronics?
Give it a thorough cleaning, isolate the sound if possible (like said above) and to be safe, give DS a call on Monday morning. Edited by Snaike - 26 Jul 2015 at 4:10am |
