Hi DS gurus,
I am getting ready to purchase a new machine after keeping my current
Dell XPS for 6 years.
I would like to get your advices on 2 very similar configurations and
if there is any change you will recommend please.

I "downgraded" the PSU from the default 750W to the modest 500W.
because I am not doing any power heavy tasks, no gaming, no high-end graphics.
But since I have a bit of margin to my budget of $2,000 (with the
promotion of $50), I was wondering if there is any big benefit
or using the 750W vs the 600W or the 500W.
Thanks in advance.

Budget:
around $2,000

Expectations:
Future proof keeping it 6 years.
Use future peripherals on USB 3.1 Gen2 A or C :
External HDD for data backup and mobility (like Seagate Innov8 or the like when more models exist)
Laser Color MFP (if any)
resolution 1080p, maybe 1440p in future

Usage:
50% Work : capable of handling 20 big Excel and Powerpoint files opened at once,
and many browsers tabs
40% Home : Photos editing, Video stream
10% Game : RTS (Starcraft 2)

Monitor
ACER K272HL bid 27" 1080p 6ms

Both builds look good to me. Not a gaming rig so the video card and psu should do it.

The different cases, 600q vs Corridium, is up to you.   The 600q is very quiet and closed and the Corridium has a side window if you like the looks and want internal lighting. One is simple and neat and the other allows more of a visual treat.

The gtx 1060 only needs the 500watt, but I personally would go a bit higher for any future needs., video card upgrade.

Looks good and good luck.

I'd like to add that the Efficiency rating of the power supply is as ( or more? ) important as the watts rating.
Coolermaster has a neat Power supply selection guide Here:

Bprat22, Thanks very much for your reply and suggestions. I will go with the Slade
Carbide 600Q (I prefer the quieter option than the fancy form factor), and will keep the PSU at 750W for "future proof" upgrade.

Select the other 750 watt psu that's $34 more. It's a gold versus bronze efficiency, has twice the warranty and fully modular wiring.   Just a better supply for a little more.

Keep us updated.

I placed the order the next day 11/22.
And Thanks bprat22 again for your review and advices. Smile
Although, I did not order the "other" 750W PSU because the total price went above my budget : in fact with this current 750W it was already beyond my $2K upper limit, but luckily with the special DS Black Friday promo ($50 off and 4 years warranty), the price went down a notch.
My only regret is I should have emailed the DS Sales team to know if they had an other promotion coming up. They would have probably mentioned it and I could have held off a few more days.
Because I saw that on Cyber Monday, there was an even better deal : $75 off and 5 years warranty ... Cry
In any case, the system is in Stage 6 since yesterday.
Now, just waiting Chilling

Congrats.  Awesome

No regrets , since DS wouldn't reveal any upcoming promos, anyways.  Big%20Smile

Stage 6 was pretty quick.  One more stage and then shipping.  Strong

I wouldn't stress too much about the $25 off. Neither would I in the case of the warranty; I believe DS only extends the labor portion of the warranty and not the parts...most of those things which will fail due to labor will be caught in the first month or so. Furthermore, the parts are still covered under factory warranty and DS will provide assistance with factory warranty issues, if needed (I may take advantage of this as both my Ethernet and WiFi hardware on my motherboard started to have issues and Asus doesn't have the best reputation with consumer motherboard warranty claims).

Slight correction....I believe the promo upgraded warranty from 3 to 4 years does up the parts warranty from 1 to 2 years.

Yes I confirm what bprat22 said : the special offer I had was "4 Year Labor & 2 Year Part Replacement"

PS : I just noticed, below my avatar, I have now the "Verified Customer" stamp.
That is a pretty slick forum feature, to be able to connect my order to my email ...
I am now part of the "gang" Awesome
