Topic: First time buyer with a few questions Posted: 16 Aug 2015 at 5:33pm |
Hello! On Friday I purchased a Vanquish 3 Level 3, and could not be more excited! I have a few questions about the PC, however.
1. I've been made aware the machine comes with only wired Ethernet connectivity available. Those of you out there who have bought external USB/internal PCI Wi-Fi cards, which are good and how much should I expect to spend? 2. Does anyone use the McAfee Antivirus that comes with the system? I've only really used Macs before and this will be my first dedicated Windows system, so unsure how necessary antivirus software is. 3. It's safe to assume no progress in build or shipping will take place on weekends, correct? I assume this is the case but want to make sure that nothing is wrong with my order, as I haven't received any updates since Stage 1 on Friday afternoon. Thanks so much for any help! |

1. Roughly $30 would get you a good option, I suggest checking NewEgg and sorting by reviews, you will easily find a good model (USB or PCI-E).
2. It's not bad, we bundle it for free, it has definitely improved over the years. Might be worth a shot for you to try and see if you like it. 3. Correct, weekends are off. You'll see your unit jump in stages by the middle of the week as we build and ship them in batches. |

Alex is the boss, so, there's the official answers.
I would only add that I've had GREAT success with an external USB adapter (or "dongle" if you will) to make my Vanquish wifi compatible. I have the http://www.amazon.com/Panda-300Mbps-Wireless-Adapter-Antenna/dp/B00JDVRCI0 |

First time buyer here too.. Literally. I have always built my own until now.. McAfee has improved. You could do worse :) Really like the USB Amped Wireless UA 600. Solid Wi Fi unit does N band and really powerful reception. |

I'm going to hijack this thread to ask a question about the Wi-Fi. I specifically got the Asus(I think?) Deluxe MB because it came with built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the Wi-Fi also apparently comes with an external antenna for better reception. Will this be included when it ships?

Hi Spheniscidae,
How far away is your router and what Generation is it? If you router is provided by your provider then make sure what gen it is. You don't want to buy a 802.11 n adapter if you have a 802.11 ac router. The n router is quite a bit slower than the ac. If you have a dual band router you probably should get a dual band USB adapter. If you cell phone is not too old you can see if you have a dual band router with the phone.
