Budget:

Usage: mmos gaming battlefield 4 and crisis 3 ] Special Needs: [Please Type Here] Saved Ticket #: [Please Type Here] Specifications: [Please Type Here] since I have bought a digital storms rig in the past and was helped by brilliant people I didn't think it would hurt to get some advice on a new rig I want to build on my own from scratch. Im hoping someone could explain to me why the I 5 and i7s are more expensive when they have only 4 cores and have less stock speed compared to the amd 8350 8 core cpu. what sthe pros and cons, and if anyone can help me with my list of parts ive chosen whether its logical or if there are better parts for the same prices or just a few dollars less or more... this is my first build from scratch.. |

In order for DS to install the OS you will need a dvd optical drive, i don't believe they will send out a rig without one.

This doesn't sound right to me. There are any number of ways to install the OS without an internal optical drive. Some of DS's default configurations are without optical drives like the Workstation Aventum II's Levels 3&4 and the desktop Virtue Level 4. I didn't do an exhaustive search, but the only systems that I found not to offer the option to "No Thanks" are the Bolt II, Enix and the desktop Aventum II. All of these are cases that have a slot for a slim optical drive. Edited by danjw1 - 03 Jun 2014 at 5:57am |

im either using 1680x1050 or 1920x1080, however if its possible with 1080 p I would love that lol, and in regards to the optical drive... as I said I am building this computer not ds..... I just thought I would ask a question on here since ive bought a computer from digital storm online and now im building my own.
plus also can anyone help inform me on how an i5 or i7 4 cores 3.5 ghz are better then a 8 core 4 ghz amd 8350... and is the 8350 a good gaming cpu? and would I really get a big benefit from spending the extra 100 dollars to get an i5 or i7 instead.... As I understand things, there are very few games that will take full advantage of multi-core, multi-thread CPUs. Some operatling systems, aviation simulators, graphics software, and animation software will make full use of all available cores and threads so check the hardware requirements and any notes for your software to see if you would benefit. Another way to take advantage of multi-core, multi-thread CPUs is to multi-box -- as in running multiple copies of the same game client to control multiple game avatars. Unless you plan on utilizing some of the preceeding software and / or techniques, then there really is no significant benefit to you to pay extra for any multi-core, multi-thread CPU. |

I understand that, but what im trying to understand is why is the 8 core 8350 amd cpu much cheaper then a 4 core slower speed processor such as the i5 and i7.... I mean 4 cores 3.5 ghz< 8 cores 4 ghz

Here's a link that might help explain it.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=836 The 8350 has 8 weak cores vs 4770k 4 strong cores. In almost all benches I've seen, the Intel's are much better for most application s. The 8350 does get better marks for a few apps that actually use all the cores, but not that many. In this case, you do get what you pay for. Not that the less expensive 8350 won't give you very good performance. In fact, you might not see a difference. Depends what you run. |

Looks good to me. But, you won't get Ultra settings with Crysis 3 on a 1920x1080 monitor with the gtx 770. That's a tough game on a video card. High settings will look good.
Lots of upgrade potential. If you have plans to sli, then a 850watt psu would be my minimum. The 750w is great for single card, now in with future cards if the trend toward more efficiency continues. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |

btw would you or anyone know of any decent monitors for a cheap prices like preferably 150 or lower... lower would be nice.... lol because my 19 inch lcd monitor is so old and its max resolution is 1024x768..... and ima get 2 monitors because... ever since I joined the military and had the luxury of using 2 or 3 monitors at once.... I refuse to go back to just one monitor... it is so niceeeeeee..... but I see monitors are expensive, just wondering if yall could give any advice in options... that would do well for 1920x resolution... because ive never gamed on anything higher then 1024x768 resolution... and apparently the higher the resolution the better the graphics? idk |

Recommending a monitor is tough. Lots of excellent monitors out there at all price ranges. I have the Dell UltraSharp U2311H, from 2011, and has great color and contrast, which is what an IPS screen gives you. A newer version is the U2314HM. About $235 at Amazon last I looked. The UltraSharps like mentioned also have a 4 port USB hub for hookups, but no HDMI which isn't needed anyways since it has no speakers.
For a little cheaper, the Asus VS239H for about $155 has very good reviews. A TN monitor is less accurate colors , still good, and cheaper. When people compare the TN to IPS they will tell you the IPS has alot more response time, 8ms as opposed to 2-3ms with a TN, but I don't know anyone that ever complained of lag with a IPS. Some of those numbers are fudged anyways. I don't spend much time looking into them, but the Dell UltraSharps are my pick from my experience. Edited by bprat22 - 05 Jun 2014 at 6:58am |

I thought the hdmi hookup would of been for better quality.... so hdmi ports on a monitor are just pretty much for speakers????

For the most part, HDMI is DVI with sound. Quality is the same. HDMI is usually for TV hookup and DVI for a gaming monitor. Both work just fine on a monitor.
