First off, I'd like to say thanks for all of the detail that you have in other configuration threads in the forum. I've purchased machines in the past from other vendors, but in reading the forum sections here, everyone seems to love their DS Systems! I think I am about ready to give them a go myself based on your experiences with them. Will pull the trigger in the next day or two, but wanted to see if there was anything glaring that I missed in the config below. Thanks!!
Budget: $4500 Expectations: Quick Boot, can handle VMs and plays games well. Usage: I usually do mostly work on my machine, but would like to be able to use it for gaming as well. Currently gaming at 1440p, but looking to 4k in the near future. Special Needs: Able to handle a couple of VMs running concurrently while working (VMware Workstation - Windows / Linux VMs). Thanks for the input! I appreciate it. Tinkering around with the configurator a little after reading some of your posts concerning more cores as well. Noticed that price tag go up some...I'd definitely like to stay under $5k though. Since it is a large purchase, I'd definitely like to make the most of the budget. In your experience, is it best to order directly online or better to interact with a sales person?

If you’re unsure of some of the selections or have special instructions then call them. Another reason to call is if your payment method might have issues. Online ordering works for most.
I personally ordered directly online. |

I hear that! They definitely seem to know the platform well. Planning on placing the order tomorrow when I get in from work. Dropped a question to the folks at DS related to the Thermal Control board... Wanted to see exactly how it worked regarding all of the case fans and such. Wasn't sure if I'd be better off with or without it. I'm super excited about the prospect of getting a new machine though. Made a few final tweaks based largely on input I've seen from them, and some others, in other threads. https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1771171

For accurate temps you need to use hwmonitor anyways.
If you got upgraded fans then your upgraded fans will be connected to the controller, otherwise controller is of no use. Edited by DST4ME - 05 Nov 2017 at 1:35pm |

That is a kickass config boss, talk to DS and specify which fans you want to be blue led fans so there are no misunderstandings. These will be connected to the controller.
The h115i is connected to the mobo and you can control it (fans /pump) via mobo or link(software that controls h115i) The gpu fans will be controlled by precision or afterburner (both freeware) You forgot to choose win 10 CD for recovery. Edited by DST4ME - 05 Nov 2017 at 1:39pm |

Needless to say don't install McAfee, and remember your ds part warranty is 1 year.
However things like your psu, h115i, and other things have their own warranty of 3 to 10 years depending. |

Reading the Lumos specs, the only place to put a 280mm radiator is in the front. I would consider using the 240mm H100i and have it installed in the top position. Also, see how much they want to put a rear fan in( it doesn't come with one)

I looked at the Corsair website this morning and sure enough, Nomad1970 is right... looks like the 280 will only go on the front. http://www.corsair.com/en-us/crystal-series-570x-rgb-atx-mid-tower-case Now here is where I show my hardware / case ignorance, what is the advantage of each position in the case? I do indeed plan on having a fan installed in the rear as well.

The advantage of the rad on top is the fans blow the heat out the top. Rad in front means the heat from the rad blows into the case, or, blows out toward the user and less air flow into the case. Depends how they mount the fans. My guess is inward when front mounted.
FYI....the Velox case also mounts the Corsair AIO coolers in the front because the inverted mobo doesn’t give the tubing length enough to mount on top. What effect it has on cooling I couldn’t say, but DS does it all the time. Edited by bprat22 - 06 Nov 2017 at 2:58am |

That sucks why would corsair make cases that don't support their own cooler.
I'm very against blowing hot air in. They need to bring Apollo case back as an option Ask tbem to use this case, its the Apollo case that is in my review : http://www.corsair.com/en-us/graphite-series-760t-full-tower-windowed-case I love that case, great airflow, lots of room, h115i on top. Agreed. Looks like the only case here that can accommodate a Corsair AIO 280mm rad on top, where it belongs, is the Corridium. The Apollo was great. Even better, bring back the HafX. Now I'm just getting crazy.

Wanted to say THANKS AGAIN for all of the input. I placed my order today before coming back to read the last few responses. To keep the radiator on top, I ended up dropping back to the H110i. I looked at the Velox, but my OCD would get the best of me with things being upside down. Plus I really did like the look of the 570-X case. Other than that small tweak, the final build is listed below. Now the hard part... "The Waiting"!

Congrats NOPSled....looks good and the 240mm rad will still cool things just fine. Rad on top would be my priority.
The upside down look bothers me a bit, also. DST... good move. It would be nice to have that option. |

Sorry guys, the Apollo is being phased out from production so we can't add it as a drop down.
The VELOX and LUMOS are great choices for this type of build. |
