Topic: Gaming PC build help please Posted: 03 Jan 2018 at 10:44pm |
It's time to replace my wifes 7+ year old DS. She plays wow, black desert, and steam games. (tries pretty much anything that is the new thing) I'm wanting to get something that will last awhile again and can play VR (Occulus or HIVE). The monitor i plan on getting her is the Asus ROG swift PG348Q 34" 21:9 3440x1440 IPS 100Hz G-SYNC Eye Care. (Hopefully thats good enough.... if theres a better one for less $ please let me know ) My budget is $3500 - $4000. I'm kinda waryof liquid cooling btw. Thanks for the help.

Holy cow, what a monitor!
You might take a look at this build for an example that would seem to hit your high spots. Config ID 1814388. Go to the configurator and at the very top of the page, click "load config" and enter the ID to see. Ultra fast SSD for OS, apps, some games; 1TB SATA SSD for bulk of games and other storage. 1080Ti will handle that monitor(!) just fine. The H115i is an all-in one sealed no maintenance liquid cooler. Top-end here, 5 year warranty from Corsair. if it should leak, the coolant is non-conductive. If the pump fails, your CPU will overheat and cut out before it's damaged. Not too much to worry about, but ya gotta pay attention a bit. And under budget. Just a rough idea. Super fast rig. The Internal Lighting is free on the sale, and I just got a rig with it yesterday, and it looks great! You can also turn it off. |

Here you go Ticket# 1814445 --- $3482 (To see this build click here)
Good buid i made 2 changes, 960 pro instead of 950 and win10 pro instead of home, and a bigger case for more room. I would look for a monitor with native refresh rate of 144hz Edited by DST4ME - 04 Jan 2018 at 1:29am |

You guys are awesome as always. Will the ram and video card be enough to run VR? Do you have any recommendations for a monitor thats 144Hz or higher? I had my heart set on that Asus since i first saw it. She uses two monitors at work, which is why I went after the elongated one.
Thanks again. |

Check hardware section and general discussion section for monitor recommendations, they are a little tricky.
The 1080ti is a beast, feel free to go with 32gb of ram if you like |

I wouldn't give up on that mon you like just yet. From what I've seen, the experiential difference between 60 Hz and 100 Hz is quite large if you're looking at something that runs in higher frame rates (like your 1080 Ti will produce!). Diff from 100 to 144, not as much. Many argue that diff is more for pro gaming than anything else.
Personally, I have no clue BC I've never gamed higher than 60 Hz, so, 60 FPS. The Q-synch will match your refresh rate (Hz) with your FPS up to 100. I can't imagine that not being satisfying for most people not at the cutting edge of gaming. Bottom line is you should do your homework to compare and see what's more important to YOU. (Or actually your wife.) Or maybe just check this out? https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ Edited by Cretae - 05 Jan 2018 at 2:59am |

For that price ($1300) he should be able to get a good ips with 144hz, so my argument would be why pay for 100hz when for same price (give or take a little) you can have 144hz
The 1080p Cretae posted looks ok but if you want qhd (1440p) then go here and check this one out, you can ask oldlady questions since she is here and owns it. it is not ips but it is va Or keep looking for a 1440p ips with 144hz Edited by DST4ME - 05 Jan 2018 at 5:08am |

haha, I just bought that monitor last night after reading that post. Thanks. I have one more question. I'm pretty old school... should I add a audio card? My wife's headphones are analog. I'm gonna go ahead and get the extra ram too. (I was always needing extra ram in the late 90s) As soon as I get the answer I'll pull the trigger. The psu is big enough, right? Thanks again.

The 750 watt psu is right on for the 1080ti.
Motherboard audio is excellent and so much better than the old days I also can relate to. Audio card isn’t needed unless you are an audiophile with high end equipment. |

I gotta 'fess up. I did not realize that mon is 1080p. Front page didn't breath a word.
That said, it's got a lot going for it with ips vibrancy, top refresh. and OMG that widescreen. Then there's the $400 saved. Sorry, I get carried away because there's no way my space could accommodate more than 27". Edited by Cretae - 06 Jan 2018 at 3:39am |

Yay. Just got it all hooked up and its running smoothly. I forgot how awesome they pack stuff. Seeing the inside of the new pc tech is kinda cool...sooo much space. Only problem is that they forgot to install the secondary ssd (the 1 TB one). I haven't had a chance to install all the monitor software yet because my wife jumped on it as soon as I installed the essentials.
I called customer support and left a message. Hopefully I hear back from them soon. |

I got everything installed except a number of games i have to install. I'm waiting on a CSR to see about sending me that drive. I double checked to see it maybe it was disconnected and rattling around in case..nope...completely missing. I think i can install the drive fairly easy. Thanks.

Just got off with tech support an hour ago. Best tech support ever!! Found the second ssd..it was the one I thought was the main ssd. The main ssd is actually on the motherboard, which is crazy cool. I just had to check connections on the other ssd and click it in. I checked it when i unpacked but I handle things with kit gloves when messing with new tech.. I needed to be a little bit forceful. After that he went through the system and adjusted bios and numerous other stuff. Truly awesome experience! Thanks again!
