Well, after buying a new Asus ROG Swift PG279Q monitor, I’ve realized that it’s finally time to upgrade from my previous, 5 year old, Digital Storm desktop to take advantage of its 1440p and 144hz. I haven’t been keeping up with whats out there, so could use some solid help building a new gaming machine. And I basically have no idea where to even start.
Budget: Would love to keep it around $3000-3500 if possible, but would be willing to go higher if there’s a good reason or a need to. Expectations: A solid PC that will last for several years and be able to crush any fps on ultra settings as well as the occasional RTS or open world like the new Ghost Recon. Usage: Gaming and only gaming Special Needs: None Everyone on here was super helpful the last time I did this, so figured this was a good place to start. Thanks in advance! |

Hi ryanh829..... Here's a solid build to play on your 1440p monitor. The gtx 1070 would play most games at decent frames but the gtx 1080 gives you the extra for better gaming and longevity.

Awesome, thanks for the info/config! That's quite a bit cheaper than I was expecting which is great. Would there be a noticeable benefit to doing dual 1080's since this did end up being a bit cheaper than I was planning? Or is that total overkill right now?

A single 1080 is all you need for your monitor...with sli, the other card would spend most of its time just sitting there.
Gtx 1080Ti is about to drop so waiting a week or two might prove a good choice. Still single card, about the same price, if rumors are true, and better performance. Win, win, win. |
