Topic: GPU issue / upgrade - 2014 Vanquish lvl3 Posted: 29 May 2018 at 10:06pm |
I've recently started having trouble with my 2014 Vanquish level 3 system, which I suspect are GPU related. While playing games the display will suddenly go dark and the fans (not sure which) go racing, while the rest of the system still seems to run fine (e.g., not a full system crash, audio continues to work, discord, etc.).
I've done nothing to the system since original purchase, other than install an SSD. At first I was actually happy that this thing finally was showing signs of aging, thinking I'd jump in for a new system. However, if I replaced it I'd like to hook my brother up with this one - just not with a bum GPU or whatever might be wrong. That said, has anybody experienced similar issues, and any recommendations on what to upgrade (GPU vs. an entirely new system)? Thanks!! Specs are: Processor: Intel Core i5 4570 3.20 GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z87-C (Intel Z87 Chipset) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 600W Corsair CX Graphics Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB No overclocking of any kind |

It could definitely be a bad graphics card. You could check it by unplugging the card and plugging the monitor into the igpu, integrated graphics on the motherboard.
Your cpu is still good to go, so a new card might be all you need. Depending on your budget, my suggestion is a gtx 1060 or 1070. |

From experience all I can tell you is that installing a 1070 is almost like a whole new machine.... so, there is that.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give the igpu a shot just to make sure I don't get the same issue. Appreciate the recommendations on the 1060/1070, also - thanks guys! |

Check the graphics card and fans for dust. It could be cutting out from excessive temps if it works sometimes.

Check temps with HWMonitor. It might be what Cretae says and just something that a good cleaning could fix easily.
