GPU question on original ODE1

So I purchased an original ODE1 about 4 years ago, and it's always run great for me. Well it seems the EVGA GTX 570 that is in it has died. I knew when I bought the rig, there were not many options as far as upgrades. I found someone selling a used GTX 680, and I think it will work, and was wondering if anyone could verify that.
Also, I realize my DS warranty was up long ago, but I read somewhere that the video card itself my have a separate warranty through actual manufacturer of it. Does anyone have any experience with that? Thanks in advance for any replies.

The gtx 680 will work just fine in your rig.   I have the original ODE 0 and went from a gtx 560 to a 570 when it died, through DS warranty,  and now have a gtx 970.  

The original 570 might've only had a 1 or 3 year manufacturers warranty being a system builders version,  but you'd need to check its serial number on the manufacturers website.

If possible, grab a gtx 970, if budget allows.  It is an awesome card and about the best bang for your buck.  I have the MSI gtx970 Gaming 4G.    It will set you back about $350, so the wallet does decide.

yea, I'd love to upgrade to the 970's but this motherboard is the Asus P8Z68-V LE, and I was under the assumption that the gtx 680 was the newest card that could work with it? Am I wrong about that?

Good to see you too, it's tax season again so I may be getting a whole new rig through DS soon but I'd like to get this one going again for my older son.

I also see that I posted this in the wrong forums...doh! If someone could move it to the appropriate forum, that'd be cool.

I have the p8p67 LE and the 970 works great. If you're worried about Pcie2.0 vs 3.0 with the graphics slots vs newer cards rated for 3.0, not a problem. It's all backward compatible and little or no performance loss.

It'll work.

No, I didn't buy the 680 as it was used, and I don't like buying used parts if I can help it. I really wanted the 970, but I have to wait on the tax man to pay me a visit or my wife might have killed me LOL....I bought a brand new Asus gtx 750ti, and mainly because it was only $80 and I needed something asap. Seemed like a good deal to me, and it makes a big difference compared to that loud 570 that was in this rig. I may overclock, but it really doesn't seem that I even need to. What's your thoughts about doing that?

If I remember correctly, the 750 ti is pretty locked down as-is and further overclocking doesn't yield much, maybe a frame or two better in games.  Its clock and memory clock are already pushed.   Not worth the added stress on the card, IMHO.   You could use EVGA Precision and try it, but it's not one of the cards that really benefit alot.

Enjoy.   That card is a lot less heat and power draw for roughly the same performance.  Big%20Smile

Thanks Bp, yea I'm definitely noticing the lower heat, a lot lower! That 570 I had to change the fan profile through evga precision or it would overheat...I never liked the noise when the fans starting really turning. I'm thinking I won't even have to change the fan profile on this one, and I'm running two monitors on it, although I only game on the main one. In the end, this is really all I need for now as I don't do anything different then I did 4 years ago. I'll still end up passing it down to my son in the next few months, and I'm already wondering which rig I will be buying from DS next. Thanks for all your help and advice!

My old 570 was a nice card but I had to add side fans to my ODE, change the fan profile also,  and drop the voltage a bit to keep the heat under 85C.  So I know what you mean.   Plus it was noisy when it got cranking.
