I just got my Vanquish 4 lvl 4 today and realized there is no way to hook up 5.1.
I know there are RCA splitters but I also read it just gives out a modified stereo and not true 5.1.
So I went and just ordered a simple Creative SB 5.1 sound card.

I don't understand how anyone is supposed to set up surround sound with this MB...according to the MB specs it's supposed to capable of 7.1

So unless I'm missing something obvious...a sound card is my only option.

Not happy..

Every other computer I've bought has 3 RCA plugs.

Glad sound cards are cheap..

Hi ogre, there are three colored audio ports on the back of your motherboard, pink, green, and blue. They are not RCA plugs, but 3.5mm jacks. Any computer speaker set should work with them.

I don't know..
There are three jacks on the MB.And only 3.
But they are listed as Mic, Audio out and Audio in.
I'll try it tomorrow and see what happens...but if it explodes and takes me out...I'm haunting you...forever !
Joking of course.
I'm just not too sure...I just looked at my --------- and it has 6 jack ports. And my jacks are colored Black, Orange and Green.
Even the guy from your tech support said I would need to get an audio splitter.
Just a little confused here.
Like I said I'll try it out tomorrow...tired from unpacking my new toy.
Thanks for the reply..

You're speakers need an amplifier. Most computer speakers have a built-in amplifier (either a separate unit or integrated into the subwoofer). An alternative you can do is use the HDMI to feed an unencoded audio stream to an A/V receiver and then hook up the speakers to the A/V receiver. You don't need a sound card for any of this.

Yeah my speakers have an amplifier ( taking a stereo signal and amplifying it to 5.1 )
It's what I'm listening to at the moment ( Toto..Africa )
So I have 5.1 just by plugging in the green jack and adjusting my speaker set up )
But it's not true 5.1
Plugging the other jacks in did nothing..no matter the order..just squelched.
My 4k Tv has the the 7.1 Blue Ray Home System already plugged in and I also use the TV for my monitor. So it's full up. ( I'll have to look...lots of ports on the back of that thing )
I guess I'll see how it goes tomorrow when I'm gaming and watching Blue Rays...the speaker 5.1 overide really shows it's colors and faults then ..
But it's no big deal either way..
Peace..

There are a few options when connecting it to a TV. You can have your computer be an input to a receiver and then have the receiver output the image to your TV while playing the sound. You can plug the computer directly into your TV and have the Audio Return Channel (ARC) go back to your receiver. I'm not sure if you can have separate HDMI hook-ups directly from the computer to the TV and receiver; somebody else would have to chirp in if that is possible to configure (e.g. video from the GPU HDMI port to the TV and audio from the motherboard HDMI port to the receiver).

With a 5.1 system, there will be three lines to connect...each line carries two channels. You have the Left-Right, Surround, and Center-Low Frequency Emitter (LFE; aka subwoofer) channels. 7.1 has an additional connection beyond that for the rear surround channel. For boards with only 3 audio ports on the back, they can still support additional channels by having dual purpose audio connectors (you have to plug the rear surround channel to the front audio port or the microphone will go into the center-LFE speaker port).

Your computer does, indeed have 5.1+ audio. Because there are only 3 ports does not mean it does not. I hope this helps clarify the situation. You will need to use computer 5.1+ speakers basically.
