So I got the vanquish PC the 21st of august and now I am hearing a little grinding noise coming from the hard drive. I read defragmentting could remove some the sound but its still there. I've also read that the sound could mean the hard drive is failing or could be failing soon. I've seen how a hard drive works on YouTube and mine just seems louder than those.I do know that the arm of the hard drive is making the noise but it just worries me. This didn't always happen it just started yesterday. I'm just wondering if this a bad thing and if I need to send the hard drive back or get a new one.

Grinding from a mechanical hard drive is usually an indicator of failure in the near future.   Some seeking noise is normal but not grinding. The reason defrag helps is that the files are organized with less seeking needed. You didn't see any difference because it's a new unfragmented drive.   Defrag just masks the problem.

If you have any important files , I would get a new drive and clone the old to the new.

Contact DS. If they agree with a dying drive then they'll sent out a new one.

To close out this thread. What is the best cloning software for those who are not computer experts like me.

My favorite is Acronis True Image. It is also a free download with Western Digital drives.   At least mine.

Acronis true image or reflect, just remember you want to use the clone feature.

Clone Guide for acronis 2017

Clone Guide for Reflect the video here is a better guide

For Cloning your m.2 you maybe forced to use reflect.
