Topic: Hardware needed to upgrade GPUs? Posted: 11 Aug 2017 at 9:25am |
Hi guys,
I have an Aventum with liquid cooling and two 980ti cards. I'd like to upgrade to 2 1080ti, but was wondering what hardware I'd need to do that? I assume I'll need new water blocks, but want to make sure I get the correct ones that'll be compatible with the Aventum's liquid cooling. I have a friend who knows what he's doing in terms of actually doing the upgrade, but I need to make sure I have the right parts ready to go for him. Can anyone help out with exactly which parts to get. Does DigitalStorm sell them or will I need to go to a 3rd party site? Thanks for any advice/help! |

here is a list of EK water blocks for the various vendor 1080ti's:
https://www.ekwb.com/news/official-list-ek-water-blocks-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-series/ you'll need to match up your particular card(s) with their online configurator. if you don't have the quick disconnect tubing you'll need to drain the whole loop first. edit: as for going thru DS, i'm sure they have something they use, but they might have to special order something particular. you'd have to check with them on how it impacts your warranty and whether it's better to go thru them or just go third party. Splurge and rid yourself of any stress. Send it back to DS let them clean it out and upgrade. They built that beast after all. and I know that machine was not cheap. |

Have an Aventum myself with 980s under liquid and plan to have DS prepare the new cards with all ready to just insert in the mobo, connect the QDs and voila. For sure more expensive than doing it myself but not confident enough to convert the cards for liquid cooling. All else good to go.
Good luck any way you go. Keep us posted with your adventure. |

just rem to ask them to ship you back the air cooler that came with the new cards, so that way (if you ever want to) can sell the cards or return to vendor for rma (if needed). i know most of the vendors won't honor their warranty w/o the cards being in their original config. i forgot to have them do that when i had my Aventum 3 built
