Budget:
Under $3K Usage: Gaming, Streaming, Video editing (YouTube) I use Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, and Photoshop CC for editing. My game titles make up for mostly MMO, open world, RPG and strategy simulator titles (WoW, World of Warships, Witcher 3, Total War, etc.) Some FPS but rare. Video editing and streaming would be a large part. While I video edit 1080P I do edit at 1440p and 4k. Specifications: Already have Geforce 1080TI so do not plan on getting a rig with a video card since I already have a good one to place in. While primary hard drive will be an M2 I do plan to add a second M2 down the road. I have two Samsung 850 EVO SSD 1TB drives I plan to add into the rig. I also I have a Sound Blaster AE-5 that uses a PCI E slot. So the best onboard audio for the mainboard is not a big deal. I have two current monitors. Primary gaming monitor is 1440p 2k Asus gaming monitor with gsync at 165 hz refresh. My second monitor for work is a general LG 4k monitor for editing 4k content of photos and videos. Already have an external optical Blue Ray drive. Questions: Noticed DS has no overclock included. No longer needed to OC now? Edited by blackcatfoe - 17 Jan 2018 at 11:31am |

Doesn’t look like you need much help, your video card and m.2 already figured out. Just select the case you like, like Lumos or Velox, get 16gb ram, 32 gb if your apps can use it and good to go.
Motherboard selection is basically, get one that can seat 2x m.2 and the more expensive boards usually have better components. The Hero supports 2x m.2. As far as overclocking, you can select stage 1or 2 overclock, unless your going Vanquish. For gaming the 8700k will Turbo to 4.7 on one core, 4.6 on 2 core, etc. and most gaming only uses 1or 2 core. No other added oc needed. Your apps might be better off with added overclocking since it will give you 4.7 or higher on all 6 cores, instead of speed stepped down. Adobe, streaming use multi core. DS can oc or some suggest doing it yourself in Bios to keep vcore a little lower. I didn’t put a config together because not at my rig. Hope this helps. |

Don't like that case if you don't like velox or lumos then grab cordiam, but it's up to you.
Drop oc to factory, factory turbo boost is great, manual oc here will get you high vcore. You don't need the 850w, 750w will do. Change ssd to 960 pro for better performance /quality /warranty. |

Any reason not to like the carbide case? I have it selected as it is the only case I can place an internal SSD expansion bay. I have several SSD I have data files stored on.
Also, I never did an OC myself. Any reference on how to do this in BIOS manually? |

The Intel factory boost will give you what you need but we can help you oc it higher with better settings if needed.
The air flow is not great on that case, i use an external enclosure for my external drives. Edited by DST4ME - 17 Jan 2018 at 10:53pm |

New rig config
Ticket: # 1825976 Question since the side case is clear considering some lighting inside (because wife loves that, loves Purple and Red). Any recommendation for internal lighting? Edited by blackcatfoe - 18 Jan 2018 at 8:43am |

The $39 remote controlled lighting was on sale for the holidays, so I said, "Why not?". I think it's terrific. Lots of choices, and you can turn it off completely with the remote.
Like your rig, BTW. Edited by Cretae - 18 Jan 2018 at 11:16am |
