Topic: Here is my config..comments welcome... Posted: 04 Aug 2016 at 12:28pm |
Mine is a relatively low end build, would appreciate comments. I'm not a gamer, the pc is replacing my old ds pc that is about 6 years old and dying a slow death. I use my pc mostly for digital image manipulation, large file size (36mp camera!) using photoshop and lightroom. Also normal business usage, documents and spreadsheets. Lastly, normal personal use, looking at animal porn videos, etc...:)
In my build I upgraded ram to 16gb, downgraded the video card 1 notch, and added 2x3gb hdd's in addition to the 250gb ssd that is standard. I also downgraded the case and cooling, didn't think I would need liquid cooling as a non-gamer. Here are the details, thanks in advance for comments and suggestions! I think you would benefit from more cores for your use, so you may want to look at 6800k possibly.
I would go with 1060 gpu, it will do you great for a longtime but that is up to you. the psu need to change to the other 750w evga for better warranty/reliability or you can even go lower to a 650w if you want. I would get more ram but if you think 16GB is enough for you then stick with that. Change your hdds to either wd black edition or enterprise for better quality/reliability. The biggest performance difference is in your cpu, You need to oc the cpu for great gains, but just go to stage 1 so that you have nothing to worry about, at stage 1 oc the cpu will out live the system itself. so in short this: Here you go Ticket# 1464749 --- $2,116.00 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Chassis Model: Digital Storm Coridium Core Components Processor: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz (Codename Skylake) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z170-E (Intel Z170 Chipset) (Up to 4x PCI-E Devices) System Memory: 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 600W EVGA Storage / Connectivity Expansion Bay: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black) Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) (Internal) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (250GB Samsung 850 EVO) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (3TB Western Digital - Black Edition) Storage Set 3: 1x Storage (3TB Western Digital - Black Edition) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics / Multimedia Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (EVGA ACX 2.0) (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Digital Storm Engineering Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D15 (Extreme Performance) HydroLux Tubing Style: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected HydroLux Fluid Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a custom HydroLux liquid cooling system selected Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Digital Storm TwisterBoost Technology Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU - Up to 4.4GHz (Depends on Cooling and Motherboard) Software Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: FREE: McAfee AntiVirus Plus (1 Year Service Activation Card) (Not Pre-installed) ($35 Value) Accessories / Goodies Customer Care Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 10-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) price jumps of course feel free to go back to the 980 if you like. let me know if you think you want more cores than 4 aka 6800k |

What do the 'better' hd's get me? Are they faster or just more reliable?

Its mainly reliability, I have not checked for a while but it could also be longer warranty and in some cases tiny better speeds. For faster its the ssds.
