Budget: ~4k

Expectations: I'm looking for a reasonably priced high-end but not-quite cutting edge gaming machine, that will last for several years.

Usage: I use 2 monitors (game on one; apps on the other).

I bought a Digital Storm box a few years ago, and I've been pretty happy with it - with one exception (I get a "driver stopped repsonding" errors pretty often, and some of the games I play don't recover from it).

Hi JK..... Look like a nice rig to me.

What are the gaming monitor's resolution?

Do you plan on adding another 980 in sli?    If not, a 750watt or 850 is plenty.   Even sli only needs an 850 w psu. Today's cards are nothing like a few years go.

To save some $$$, chaange the 5930k to the 5820k cpu. Only real difference is that the 5930k has 40 lanes Pcie and the 5820 k has 28 lanes.   For single card or sli the 28 lanes is all you need.

Hope this helps and good luck.

For your driver issue, try installing a different graphics driver using Custom, Clean install. Could be the driver.

Hi JK,

A really nice build but way more than you need for a gaming machine like you described. With all of that storage you must have other uses than gaming?

The Velox case is not a good choice for the noise suppression option you have chosen. The case doesn't have many places that noise dampening material can be installed. The Velox is all about air movement and damping material will block some of the air flow. I suggest you get the Noise suppression option with Optimized Airflow & Fan Speeds Only adjustment.

bprat22 made some good suggestions you should consider. If you are never going SLI and only gaming, you don't really need the X99 platform. But, that is up to you and your preference.

Frank

Thanks for the quick responses! I'm making your suggested changes now.

I currently run 2x GeForce GTX 570s now, but I think a single 980 would be fine.

I do have other uses; but I think gaming would be the most intensive. So yeah, this is more than I need no doubt.

I'm planning on the Asus 4K Ultra HD 28 inch PB287Q Series (3840 x 2160 Resolution) (Black) (1ms 10-bit) display.
