As I posted on this thread:

http://www.digitalstorm.com/forums/how-do-i-open-this-reservoir-tidf27634-pidf292494/

I have a DS computer but don't really know how to maintain it. I'm getting an error whenever I turn the computer now that says "CPU Fan Error! Press F1 to run setup"

Since I have no idea what any of the settings in the setup menu are, I don't know what to do in there to fix the issue, whatever it is, but previous guesswork as to what to select may actually have CAUSED this problem in the first place.

What can I post here to let you guys see my fan settings so I can correct anything that's screwed up? Does this help?

With water cooling the CPU fan is normally set to ignore in Bios since no fan is plugged into the cpu_fan header on the motherboard.    Might be under the Advanced screen, Monitor tab but check the manual or just poke around.

None of your fans are showing. Do you have the DS fan control center? If so, that's where the chassis fans are plugged in and wouldn't show in the Bios screen you posted.

I don't know if I have the DS fan control center -- I've never looked for it if it came loaded on the PC. I can't check though because I can't move past setup.

With no fluid moving to cool the CPU, the rig might be shutting down rather quickly because of overheats. While in Bios, go to Advanced Mode and look for the fan section so you can check that the CPU fan speed is set to Ignore or Disable.

If the fluid isn't flowing to the CPU, you'll need to fix that first.

Ok thanks I guess then I should focus on the fluid issue first and hold off on this conversation for a bit....

Now that the fluid situation is at least temporarily fixed, now I'm back to the CPU fan error, which I'm still getting. Bprat22, I did what you recommended and got as far as this screen in advanced/monitor:

everything that says "N/A" needs to be changed to "Ignore".  save and exit. on reboot you should go right to windows.

Khuminis.....   The pump is working OK and the fluid is flowing?    Hope so.

Never mind , just saw your other thread.   Good it's working and now just have to see what's up with any potential leaks.

After a little dusting you should be good as new.

Hi Khuminis,

With the amount of dust coming out of the front radiator there is a chance that the radiator is not doing its job. You need to blow and vacuum out your system. Especially that front radiator. Get yourself a can of canned-air from Office Max, Best Buy. You need to blow the air through the rad. Be careful to keep the can air vertical and level. If you tip it you might get some moisture out of the can. When you blow the air through the rad use a vacuum at the same time to collect the dust. You don't want it to settle back on your components. Don't touch anything in the computer with the vacuum.

It's all dependant on the temps. If Silent keeps everything cool then win - win..cool and quiet.    If temps climb too high then try Standard, etc.

well I tried different settings on the chassis fans 1 and 2 from standard to silent to turbo didnt make any difference in fan speeds   any clue ? well if I put setting on full speed they ramp up   all other setting the run just under 900 rpm

ran prime 95 for about 20 mins they speed up as temps go up
highest CPU temp got to 46 highest core temp got to 71
so from what reading all is safe

Did you save the Bios each time to hold the setting?

Not sure, but some motherboard s will only control 3 pin fans and some others 4 pin fans.   Depends if the mobo has voltage or pwm control, or both.

What's the mobo?

PWM, pulse width modulation, requires a 4 pin fan. Most case fans use 3 pin fans and are controlled by varying the voltage.

that mobo has 4-pin fan headers that can be used in a 3-pin config by leaving the pwm controlling wire connector slot unpinned if that makes sense.  like bprat said, most case fans only come with a 3-pin connector w/3 wires connected to them.  if you have pwm-capable case/rad fans then they'll have 4-wires and 4-pin connector on them.  this will allow you the flexibility to either run pwm or dc mode.  that board has an auto detection/auto tuning feature that will tell how you have the fans/heat sinks connected and set them up optimally automatically.  if you desire to manually config your cooling you can do that as well.  it also has an "extreme quiet mode" which reduces cpu fan speed below the default minimum for when the system is idling.  i'm assuming that means the default minimum speed is probably on the 7-volt setting and "extreme quiet mode" sets it to 5-volts.

pwm just gives you more control of the fan speeds.  with dc you have linear control.  the main advantage being that it is quiet.  however, the speed control is limited. for example, a 12-V fan with a control voltage range from 7V to 12V could be running at half speed at 7-volts.  with pwm you can run the fans in percentages as low as 10% speed, for example.  pwm fans can be noisier due to their high signal frequency.

you can check your order info in the "support>my account" tab and see if the system is config'd with the DS control center/fan controller.

the way your bios monitoring is config'd leads me to believe you have a fan controller installed.  and if you don't see any fans plugged into the mobo fan headers they've got to be plugged in somewhere, yes?  check the rear of the mobo tray for a rectangular hub-like device with a bunch of 3 and 4-pin fan headers.

if you the option to run high frequency pwm fan control that's the best/recommended way to run your fans for a few reasons: 1) longevity of your fans; 2) more control over fan performance; 3) acoustics are just about as low as linear control (DC).
