Topic: Ide ata controller issue Posted: 27 Apr 2016 at 11:19am |
I was doing an upgrade to Windows 7 and received a message that the IDE ATA
ATAPI controller driver needed updating. After several failed attempts to upgrade the controller I removed the drivers, rebooted and never saw the IDE controller or channels again. The system has a Sata motherboard and Sata drives. The system now shows the JMI controllers 362 and 363 running my raid and backup drives. Why was the IDE controller enabled in the first place if it wasn't needed. The drives seem to read and write faster now. The system is running fine in this new configuration. I'm just curious what is the issue with the IDE controller and how did it change over to Sata. The bios is showing Sata as set for raid and JMI 362 and 363 set for raid. I never touched these settings. Regards, |

Is this an X58 mobo by chance? If I recall, and could be wrong, it has been awhile, the early gen Sata and Sata 2 defaulted to IDE with an OS upgrade on x58. Going into Bios to select ACHI was needed. Or, as you did, uninstall the drivers for that controller. Even though IDE was defaulted to, it still ran at the faster speed. Just the way it was handled back then.
This is from memory, so hope it makes sense. |

Yes it's an old Evga x58 classified. That is what I'm seeing. Thanks for the response. Now that I'm clear on what happened I'm good to go.
