Topic: Installing FarCry1 Posted: 25 Dec 2011 at 9:52am |
Tried loading farCry1 unto system with Win7/64bit.Found all the updated patches. but upon loading, the install wizard stops and a box pops up stating the following "Run setup 32.exe on 32 bit windows, or run setup 64.exe on 64 bit windows. Nothing inside the box to pick from. the minute you close the box it take you to the finish box. Now this is a 32bit game, but I have tried all settings in compatibily mode. I even did a complete hard drive cleaning and reinstalled Win7, and half a day getting updates and drivers reloaded. Same problem! Virus program is off also. Even tried in safe mode, same box appears. Loads on my wifes 32bit system with out a hitch. ???

Hi MDR,
Make sure that Far Cry is being loading into Program Files (X86). This is where your 32bit files should be loaded. Frank |

It's not going there for some reason. How does one send it there if the install wizard does not set it up?

Hi MDR..When the install disc starts, a couple of screens in it'll tell you the default install path. It should be C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Ubisoft\Crytek\FarCry.
It's probably defaulting to just \ProgramFiles\etc...... without the X86. Hit Browse, and either manually, below Path, type it in or scroll to ProgramFiles(86)in window below and click. Great game. Enjoy.

right click the cd and choose "open" you should then be inside of the folder of the cd, now look for a file that is named "setup 64.exe" or something like that, if you don't have that in any of the folders that are inside the cd then do as the guys say and install it to x86 program folder.

Ok guys , I placed the 32.exe file into x86 first. came back saying 1155:file C:\program file x86\FC32.msi not found. Went back to dics, copied FC32.msi file to x86. Same window appeared. Run on 32.exe or 64.exe. i then placed them into the common file folder. Same box jumps up! Do I need to place the whole dics into x86?

I'm confused. From my experience, I didn't copy any files or folders from FarCry disc to pc folders. I put disc1/Install/Play disc into cd, the disc auto loaded, then a couple of screens in, after clicking you agree to play by their rules, etc. , a screen pops with Install path filled in. The path should be what I listed above with ProgramFiles(X86)\ being the folder. If not you have to manually tell it where to go from that same screen. I clicked cont. or something and then it installed fine.
If that doesn't work, you got me. Hope this does it, it is a good game.

Hi MDR,
It should work just like bprat22 described. Delete eveything and start over. Just insert the disk and follow the installation instructions. The disk will ask you where you want to install the file. If it is not what bprat22 listed above then you need to enter that folder address. The install program will put all the files in that one address. Frank |

His disk is old so it does not have the 64bit installer.
I don't think he is able to get pass the installer part to get to what you guys are asking him to do, if I understand him correctly. did you try right clicking the installer and from properties>compatibility> here chose xp sp3? You said something about having a virus and the same issue with other apps? is that right? Edited by DST4ME - 30 Dec 2011 at 3:36pm |

LOL All the discs are old. It should work if he followed Frank and my suggestion.
I think he meant turning off virus protect in case it was blocking program. He hasn't come back, so hopefully it's loaded any he's deep in enemy territory.

DST4M is rt. Something is missing from a file. But when I run a microsoft dll scan, it says everything is fine no files missing. I can not get FC1 to load to be able to patch it. It's as though the wizard can not load to the path it needs to fully open. Thats why the box that opens says use 32.exe or 64.exe..I'm not a programer, so this is way beyond me. I need step by step instructions. The games site is no help either. They just want you to buy the latest and greatest. Thanks guys, have a safe and good yr, may all your CPU's and GPU's live long and prosper!

Hi MDR.. Happy New Year
Try this, kinda what DST was saying...Put dvd/cd in drive, when window pops to install or "Open folder to view file', click on Open.......In right hand window look for 'setup' with Application extension. Right click setup, click properties, click compatibility folder, put check in box 'Run in compatibility mode' and WindowsXP (SP3) will highlight. Hit Apply and then double click setup file again. If install box doesn't autoload, just right click Start, open Windows Explorer, dbl click dvd drive and go to setup file and do the same. If that doesn't work..try looking for 32.exe or 64.exe file to dbl click. in windows explorer. Boy, that's a mouthfull, so I hope it works. Edited by bprat22 - 01 Jan 2012 at 11:01am |

Sorry guys nothing worked. Again, the wizard starts to load, but stops. Then that little box appears saying run setup with 32.exe or 64.exe.the minute you click this box to shut, the Finish box on FarCry appears. " It says the wizard was interrupted before Far Cry could be installed." Opening up the disc and looking at the files one will find the following:
DirectX9 6/1/2004 6:35AM Filer Folder Languages 6/1/2004 6:37AM Filer Folder Support 6/1/2004 6:37AM Filer Folder Game 6/1/2004 6:54AM Cabinet File 1,405 KB Autorun 2/15/2004 9:20AM Setup Information 1 KB FarCry 2/26/2004 9:57PM Application 32 KB FarCryAuto CD 4/23/2004 4:09AM Application 3,156 KB FC32 6/1/2004 6:59AM Windows Installer... 1,372 KB Setup.skin 2/23/2004 3:55PM Skin File 7,017 KB setup32 6/1/2004 6:69AM Application 4,485 KB Thats it guys, nothing else. oh! by the way. My compatibility mode does not have XP-sp3 only 2. I keep thinking it has something to do with microsofts C++ as mine only goes back to 2005.?

DAMN.I don't know what else to try. I did lots of searches, curious as hell, and it seems alot of people are having the same issues.
Just to be stubborn on my part, if you rt click setup32 and compatibility with XP sp3 or sp2 it didn't help? I gotta take off for a little while. You have my mind reeling. |

contact FC's tech support and tell them you now have a 64bit os and the old copy of fc1 you have won't install on it, ask them for a newer copy with 64bit support.
do you have sp1 on your win7? |

Thanks guys for your help, it's been a ride. Went to Obisoft site and download another copy. $10 bucks. Of course your download comes from Digital River site. Had to download twice, and then redue the patches again They are pushing the new FarCry3 for 50bucks in download form. There is a lot more data files in the startup disc then my old one. Must have something to due with the operating systems used then in 2004 and now. anyway thanks again for your time and help.

Glad to see your finally playing.
Strange thing is, my original 5 cd set from '04, '05 installs fine on my old Dell and new ODE, both Win7 64 bit. The files you posted match mine. Some did say different cd's had different 32.exe versions. Thanks for letting us know. Don't always get to know what happened. Enjoy.
