    Posted: 22 Nov 2013 at 5:01pm
Hi Folks,

In the coming weeks I will be upgrading my GTX 680 which uses (2) 6 pin power cords.

I will be installing a GTX 780 which uses (1) 6 pin and (1) 8 pin power cord.

My power supply is a Corsair 1,000W HX. I have several 6+2 power slots available to use.

My question is this. The (2) 6 pin power lines are hard wired inside the Power Supply that currently run to the GTX 680.

Can I use 1 of those 6 pins to run to the 780 GTX ? For the (1) 8 pin I need, can I just order one from Newegg, and plug that into the GTX 780, and the other end into the available Blue 6+2 slot on the power supply?

After hunting around, I'm not sure if I'm on the right track. But, would a cable like this solve my dilemma ?

Thanks,

Becks

Only use the supplied cables when plugging into the psu. Otherwise you might damage it. Most gtx 780s will come with a 2x 4 pin to 6 pin adapter, which you don't need and a 2x 6 pin to 8 pin adapter.for your other plug to the 780. Basically, 3 x 6 pin cables from the psu should do it, one for the 6 pin and the other 2x 6 pin for the 8 pin adapter.

You sort of lost me bprat22. I noticed that mu PSU has (2) six pin cables coming from inside. The 2 ends that plug into my 680 each have (1) 6 pin and the a 2 pin hanging next to it. Can I just use those to plug into the 780 ?

I think I understand bprat. The little dongle hanging off the 6 pin, that has a 2 pin is the +2 to make it an 8 pin. Sometimes it helps to think a problem out loud with others.

Thank You

Sorry. I did misunderstand your cables.

But, yes , the 6+2 pin is an 8 pin , just split to accommodate different cards.

Reading my post again, even I was confused.
