So this only happens every so often but sometimes my internet loses connection but i know it isn't my internet speed going down as all the lights on my modem stay green.
Could it be possible the Ethernet port on my mobo might be going bad? It works fine majority of the time but just recently it started doing this. I thought it was my wireless router at first but when it did happened again i plugged the Ethernet cord from the modem to the pc and it does the same thing. |

If it happens with both the Wifi card and the plug in, then probably not the port itself.
Could still be the Ethernet Pcie controller on the mobo. I would go to Device manager, right click that driver , uninstall. reboot and see what Windows driver install does. Or, do a manual driver download of the latest. An update of the OS or anything installed could of caused an issue. If still an issue I would suspect your provider, but could still be the mobo. tough to say. Good Luck. System Restore might be a last resort if an update caused it. |

The thing is I don't have a wifi card, i have an ethernet cable that connects from my pc to 1 of the ethernet ports on the wireless router. When i just connect the cable from the pc to the modem it does it as well. But when it works, it works fine it just sometimes loses connection internet so I honestly don't think it would be the provider as the ports would be a different color if it was. I did do the windows trouble shooting thing and it said this. |

The Windows troubleshooter isn't all that great. I'd do the Device manager reinstall thing and see if it helps.
Try a different ethernet cable but probably not that. I also had a random issue a couple of years ago and found the ethernet cable to mobo connection was hanging from the weight of the cables. caused the plug to make and break the connection very randomly. |

So i called my ISP tech support up and told them the issue i was having and they did a modem refresh. So i guess i'll see if that fixes the issue. Technology sometimes ugh
Edit: apparently it fixed the problem. I was about ready to chunk my pc out the door....lol Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 21 Aug 2016 at 10:36am |

Sorry I'm late, next time this happenes and you get that error try and unplug the router from both power and all cable, let it sit for 1 minute like that and then plug all back in, that should mimic the "modem refresh". if that does not do it then call tech support.
Glad you got it worked out , if this does keep happening I would change my modem then. |

Well that is not a good sign, lets hope it does not happen again, but worst case scenario you tell your isp the router needs to be changed.

Not sure about the ISP of Arkansas, but with Comcast, I have helped neighbors with connection issues that a reset from the home office after calling was needed for the fix. Although it was usually dead not an intermittent issue. Fortunately, it hasn't happened in a year or two with the same modem/router combo.
Don't ask me to explain it. |

So a little update on the internet issue which i had been having on and off since well August...lol. But apparently it was a splitter issue. Here is to hoping that the new splitter that the technician replaced fixed the issue. It's day 2 and so far no issues.

Thanks for the update. Funny thing is, and I had forgotten, that a couple of years back I had intermittent poor connection.. Repair showed up and replaced a couple of Radio Shack type splitters and the cables in between and that helped a lot. The cables splitters had been here for years but only recently caused an issue.
Was also told that tightening the connections more than a little more than finger tight can cause leakage issues. Just an FYI. Good luck, Arkansas. |

Well i had bought a splitter awhile back to replace the splitter that they put to see if it would help and either it wasn't tightened enough or it was junk but the technician said that the splitter i bought was the culprit

So the splitter swap didn't change anything as my internet is still having some issues so i went on Amazon and bought a network adapter to see if that solves the issue. I already had the network card thingy that was built into the mobo replaced a couple of years ago when it died on me. Here is to hoping that solves it or it's on their end

I emailed a technician and requested they send me a replacement modem.
Reason why is when i got the current modem replacement back in May due to a house fire down the street that made their other modem i was using quit working (which i had since 2011), was working perfectly fine without any issues from May until the last week of July then it started going wonky on me randomly rebooting/going down. All my issues that i have been having leave me to believe that it's the modem. The Tech that came out the other day has said the signals going to my house from the lines are great and since the splitter wasn't the issue i'm banking on the modem. Now i know it's normal for the internet to go down but not like this. Also the modem they supplied me with is the Arris CM820 and they only support 4 Arris modems so me buying a better modem is well out of the question. Also in other news i've been thinking about switching to Windstream probably next year as the highest internet speed tier they have is up to 100 mbps. I mean why not? Lol. The highest speeds my current provider offers is 50 mbps.

Especially if you're still having issues. Comcast in Connecticut just bumped it to 200mb. |

DSL speed, like most connections, is highly variable. I've had some really bad DSL in my life, but I've also had DSL that outperformed the local cable options.
I will say though that on the whole in my limited experience I've had more reliability problems with DSL than other options, but that might have just been my geographical area. Edited by Tidgxor - 02 Nov 2016 at 6:39am |

Does living near one of those small windstream hut buildings make a difference?
