SO I got my replacement graphics card finally, my 580 that came with my DS rig failed on me a few months back sadly. I got a MSI 680 Twin Frozr 2gb OC edition...and today I got around to tampering with it, below are the numbers I got and I believe they are stable as I have ran 3d mark 11 advanced on extreme. kombustor, furmark, and oc scanner x and I not received any errors or alarms and maintaining a temp of under 65c

CPU Base: 1159 MHz
CPU Boost: 1224 MHz
Mem: 1615 MHz

What do you guys think? I could more than likely go higher but I don't want to push my gpu too hard, thing was expensive!

Did you have to adjust the voltage?

what are the load temps?

I didn't touch the voltage, watched several videos and they all said they don't recommend it, my load temps in furmark was at the highest peak 59c on 1920x1200 8XMSAA, I also have extreme burn in selected in the options...the temp seams to stay under 65c no matter what I am using to stress test with! I even tried the new 3D Mark but I wasn't impressed with it, I like 11 better!

The only thing I did which I didn't mention was up the power target to 112%

I started it up right after your posting, running right now! Doesn't seam to be doing much to my temps, I put it on FULL...was there any other settings I needed to adjust, im sitting at 52c at 63% on fans.

I have no idea, we don't have central air when I get hot I have a window unit...on idle I am at 38-40c, its went up slowly since I got my pc I probably need maintenance, I was idling at 30-32 when I got it.

Mother of god, your vcore is at 1.535, that is way to high man, 1.42 is pushing it. How long has it been like that?

Get ready to say bye bye to your cpu soon.

if your temps go above 80c or if pc crashes your oc is too high.

in this case your vcore is too high.

Im afraid to tamper with it, I kind of assumed that from the get go but it keeps on trucking...and I got my pc right after the B3 Revision.

you need to call DS and ask them help you get an oc with a vcore lower then 1.42.

when was the b3 revision? if its already been a year and you got the regular 3 year warranty, you are part warranty has run out, when it goes bad you have to pay for a new cpu.

it keeps trucking till one day it just won't, and at 1.53 that day is much closer then later.

As I mentioned to have a stable oc you need a load temp of 80c or below and no crashes during tests.

your oc is not stable, only reason your cpu didn't crash is because you shut off the fah, if you keep it on, your pc will turn itself off to protect itself from heat damage.

I run smp 24/7 on my cpu, temps don't go above 70c on cpu.

I can just ask my friend to come over, he built his and knows how to do all this stuff, he even took my old 580 and put a hybrid cooler on it and saved it...cause when I had it I was having temp issues, I did go into the bios just now and my computer would blue screen unless I had 1.5, so I guess I need to lower my speed in order to get that vcore!

Yes you need to lower speed but its a few different settings that has to be changed.

ask your friend to set it for you, if he knows what he is doing then he knows what not to go over.

not sure how much damage that 1.53 has done to the cpu so far, but who knows, with proper settings you just may get another 3 or 4 years if you are lucky.

Ive been messing around with it myself shooting for 4.4ghz, my friend said he can come friday around 1 or 2 am to take a look at it. But I loaded defaults and went from there since ive seen a few videos. From defaults I turned off speed-step and turned turbo multiplier to 44 until it grayed out turbo-boost like it was before I went to defaults, and set my vcore at 1.38. But my temps aren't that much better, even with these settings...idk whats wrong maybe he will, hope its not my liquid cooling cause I am woozy about messing with that! And I am not up for shipping my pc from ohio to california...was stressful enough getting here, not to mention I am broke!

My numbers are jumping up and down a lot faster I have noticed since messing around, what could cause that? And the temps under the "power" tab in that photo as well are bouncing around fast, don't remember if they did that before or not.

So I am running prime 95, with the settings I just mention...it's been running for 19mins and still going and the highest temp is 69, using real temp this time to monitor things. I didn't do blend test, only because I watched a linus-tech video on 2600k overclocking and he said the small fft test is the most stressful for the cpu.

Edit: So I also just did a blend test as well, both test ran for 35mins and top temp was 69 with zero warnings or errors. And my idle temps seam to be lowering, I bet when I hit the 87 it heated up my liquid and it took awhile to cool down. I am idling around 35 steady now...

I only use FAH now for testing, its the best, forget the rest, run fah smp only and see what the load temps are , keep mind we are looking for the C not F in temps.

If I were you I would leave the oc alone and let my friend do it.

Idle temps never matter unless they are above 60c in a room temps blew 80f.

We got it under control, he said I had everything right except a few settings to insure stability. I am running at 4.4ghz on 1.355 vcore, 30-32 idle, and under full load for 2 hours using prime 95 my max temp was 67c. He wants to replace my thermal paste, and clean out my rad fins to try and get some more head room. He was hoping to get my idle temps down to his which is 20-22c with 55c on load but he said it seams like my chip isn't as efficient as his! lol

Thats great.

each chip is different, its basically a lottery.

as I said ide temps don't really matter, load temps are most important, below 80c is expectable, best place for cpu is under 60c under load.

forget prime its nothing, run fah smp and let me know load temps there, prime does not put the cpu under full load like fah.

he is a very good friend that he wants to replace paste and clean rad.

I talked to him about that, he said he personally wouldn't turn to FAH on the simple fact its very rare to push your cpu that hard unless your intentionally doing so!

Well we are intentionally doing so, You want to know that your oc is stable no matter what, reason is tho your use might not take it that high, you never know if you have a surge of needed power here and there that might take that high for a short time. Then there is the data corruption.

either way a real stable oc is dependent on the stability of the cpu under full load and not our use.

Having said that you can skip fah (I wouldn't), but at least test with intelburn, thats a must.
