Congrats. Dynamite rig.
I have to ask....no overclocking? Either way, looks great. |

Well I did some research and found that the 4790k is baseline 4.0ghz and with a standard turbo boost gets to 4.4ghz which is what the overclocking would have done. And since I am getting 2 of the sweet gtx 980s I didn't think it would be necessary to overclock them right out of the box and that I could wait until the drivers have been stabilized and perfected before I started overclocking them since I should get a lot of performance out of them before the need arises since I'll be playing on a 1080p display primarily. I really pushed the limit of my budget and so I decided that instead of OC'd stuff I'd rather have a little larger solid state drive and a nicer motherboard.

Awesome looking setup man, I just ordered pretty much the exact same thing, Mine is in stage 3 of the build right now. I went with 2x 970's instead of the 980 though, I'm still having second thoughts but I was also pushing my budget to the limit and wanted to make sure I got everything I wanted. I can always upgrade later. I'm excited to get it though, here's my specs

Nice that looks awesome. I considered going with the X99 mobo and framework but I decided that since its primarily a gaming PC for me that the DDR4 upgrade wasn't as necessary. I think the two 970 SC are going to push out some amazing performance as well. Post up a review and some case pics once you get it I'd love to see it.

In regards to the 4790K Turbo to 4.4GHz, that would only be on one core. If you have us overclock the CPU, it would apply to all 4 cores, 8 threads for an insane increase in output. You can see out benchmarks here: 4790K OC Benchmarks

Well it kinda sucks that I misunderstood that but the budget simply will not allow for another 50$ expense. Is this something that I can learn to do on my own or is it only a feature offered by digital storm?

A bit off topic, but I also love how often DS employee's read these forums and comment on them. Show's that they actually like the company they work for and enjoy what they do.

You can OC it your self but we won't be able to provide any support on it if it does start to bluescreen or become unstable due to it.

That motherboard has the ability to overclock the CPU on its own. Either in the BIOS or in the software Asus AI Suite.

The wait has been the hardest part lol, everything else has been great, especially customer service. My new rig finished this morning and is on the way to me now. I went out and got a new computer desk tonight, Fed ex showed the computer weighed 65 pounds!!! My old desk couldn't really support that ontop of everything else lol.

No offense to danjw1, but please don't do that. Remember what Nav said on if you do decide to OC yourself, they don't support the OC should issues arrive. That being said, you did get a 4790k. Why buy an unlocked CPU if you don't wanna get some extra power for free? There's a performance/overclocking thread. Feel free to go browser through and read what others have said or just ask questions about overclocking. As for your GPU's. I find 0 point in overclocking a GPU really unless it's under water. Drivers won't improve overclocking really. But without it being underwater, we're looking over average of a 5-10% overclocking ability, with 15% being really rare for air overclocking. And usually 1% = 1 fps. So 10% = 10fps, but it'll be louder and hotter. So I wouldn't really worry about that. 10 fps is for most. Congrats on your new system. I hope you love every bit of it. |
