Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade a laptop's GPU? If so, what are my options? I bought Digital storm x17 laptop over 3 years ago and it just doesn't work as good as it used to be anymore. I get less than 30 FPS in all games, even in the ones with low system requirements.

My specs:
Chassis Model: Digital Storm x17 Laptop (Model: 9170)
Display: 17.3 Inch (16:9) (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) (Glossy Surface) LED-Backlit Display
Processor: Intel Core i7 3630QM (2.4 GHz Turbo Mode to 3.4Ghz) (Quad Core) (6MB Cache)
Thermal Compound: Stock CPU and GPU Thermal Compound
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x4GB Sticks)
Primary Hard Drive: 750GB 7200RPM (SATA 3Gb/s)
Video Card(s): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX 3GB with NVIDIA Optimus
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition)

You can upgrade but it is expensive with laptops. Almost better just getting a new laptop. You'd have to talk to DS for the particulars.

Couple of things to check if performance has taken a hit....

Clean the laptop of any dust buildup with canned air through the fans. Take bottom access panels off for a better cleaning. Unplug from wall and drop the battery first. Heat can cause the CPU and gpu to throttle back.

Also, make sure you're running on your graphics card and not the integrated. With Optimus, the laptop might not be switching. Go into Nvidia Control Panel, 3D settings, Global tab and scroll down and select high performance graphics. This selects your 670 instead if igpu.

yeah, somethings up with that.  that mobile card is close to a desktop 650ti.  it should handle games with "low sys reqs" just fine.

I did some deep cleaning yesterday and now it doesn't overheat but the gaming performance is still not at its best. I tried playing League of Legends and the FPS was between 60-130 the majority of the time but when things get intense it would drop to 20 and below.

You checked Nvidia Control Panel for the right gpu being enabled ?

Maybe check your laptop power settings to Performance.

Use the Repair function in the game. Run it and see if it detects any corrupt files. I think you hit the ? in top right corner.

Change in game settings. You might find a particular setting like Shadows, etc hogs your resources.

Yeah I did. It was on auto and I changed it to high performance Nvidia processor.

I checked the power settings and it was on power saver the whole time lol... I feel so dumb right now.
I tried playing League of Legends again and this time the FPS was mostly between 120-170 and the lowest was around 80. Is there a gpu benchmark that you would recommend using?

Thanks man, appreciate the help.
