Lenovo buys Motorola from Google for $2.9 Billion

Lenovo and Google have recently come out in news that Google is selling it's Motorola Handset business to Lenovo for $2.9 billion. This news comes shortly after Lenovo paid IBM $2.3 Billion for their low-end server business.

Google previously acquired Motorola for $12.5 in 2012 and released the Moto X phone. In this deal, Google will retain most of Motorola's mobile patents and Lenovo will be given a license to Motorola's portfolio of mobile patents.

There is no word as of yet on when the deal will go through as U.S. and Chinese authorities still have to approve the deal.

I wonder what this price would have been circa 2005, my guess is a lot higher.

It'll be interesting to see if Lenovo decides to keep using the Motorola name.

Twitter recently went and bought 900 patents from IBM. The accusation of these patents will help Twitter defend itself from previous litigations.

Took me awhile to figure this out.  Then I replaced "accusation" with "acquisition" and it made sense.
